With the recent release of X-Men: Days of Future Past, we decided who would we include on our own personal X-men team? If we were writing the comic, and could include anybody, who would we pick? It’s an interesting discussion that takes us deep into the universe of the X-Men as we learn Ashley and Jason’s ultimate X-Men picks!
So sit back and enjoy as Ashley and Jason begin their lesson. You might learn something. Enter your Mind University!

Welcome to the podcast network!
(Now I get two copies of this podcast showing up in my feed :)
Devil Dinosaur factoid: He was a member of the New Mutants spin-off book/team Fallen Angels, where his introduction to the team led directly to the death of a member!
For some value of “member…”
My X-men team, built around (1) characters I would enjoy reading more about and (2) would work well together and (3) the idea that the X-men is about finding family among strangers in a hostile world.
LEADER – Kitty Pryde, a.k.a. Shadowcat. She has the right amount of intelligence, focus, vision, and aloofness to ride herd on a group & have people willing to follow her, and I’m sick to done with Cyclops. Fun Fact Trivia: Kitty needs glasses.
CO-LEADER – Sam Guthrie, a.k.a. Cannonball. So much experience under his belt, this former member of terrorist organization X-force has no reason to be an Avenger. X-men is about family, and families don’t come much bigger than this Kentucky boy’s. Plus, his trail of ex-girlfriends puts Gambit to shame. Fun Fact Trivia: Sam was a Hellfire Club mook before being recruited by Professor X.
BRUTE – Santo Vaccarro, a,k.a. Rockslide. A mutant brute that doesn’t angst about his lot in life is just such a breath of fresh that I had to include him. Fun Fact Trivia: Santo is a keen observer, noting of the O.N.E. Sentinels “These guys suck on a daily basis.”
GLUE – Bobby Drake, a.k.a. Iceman. The true heart of the team, Bobby brings the legacy of the original team and the ability to take the edge of of tense times. Fun Fact Trivia: Bobby can’t be a very good accountant, because he has a sense of humor.
GLUE, Part 2 – Dr. Cecilia Reyes. A character who left the stage way too soon for my enjoyment, and I really want more development with her. I like how she shows that being a mutant and an X-man doesn’t mean you have to be a warrior. Fun Fact Trivia: I got nothing, because we need to know more about her.
COVERT OP – Warlock. This guy can look like anyone or anything he wants. Get him infiltrating, already! Fun Fact Trivia: Warlock is better than the Impossible Man, because he can change colors.
ROOKIE – Molly Hayes, a.k.a. Princess Powerful. This former Runaway should be approaching the age that Kitty was when she first joined the team, and there would have to be a “Kitty Pryde is a JERK!” panel. Plus, I miss the Runaways, and with the team spit up now among various books it just makes sense to bring the mutant into the mutant fold. Fun Fact Trivia: Wolverine is a meanie.
WILD CARD – Amadeus Cho, a.k.a. Mastermind Excello. His preternatural intelligence and cunning make him a definite asset to the team, but in the true sense of “Wild Card,” I could see him offering the most push back against Kitty’s leadership. Fun Fact Trivia: Hank Pym’s not so smart as he thinks he is.
That would be a great X-Men team, Daniel!
I love the concept, but I can’t stand it when it’s the girl’s turn to do a lesson. Not because she’s bad or anything, but because the guy just won’t shut up. At least during his lessons he’s too busy educating to be annoying but… man, I really want to like this show, but I just can’t stand him.
