In between the running, jumping, hollering, and general mayhem that occurs in the Major Spoilers HQ when The Boys (aka Stephen’s children) are playing, there is a considerable amount of time spent playing video games. While some of us have little time to sit down in front of the gaming console, others spend far too much time pressing up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, start. Which brings us to this week’s moment of deep soul searching.

I chose 5-10. For me, it’s all about how much time do I have after RWJ, hanging out with / feeding kids, bed time routine, and walking dog. Maybe squeeze in some time to just sit with wife and it’s already 9:30ish at night. Limited time for games at that point.
I do around 10-20 I would say, but of course it all depends on what is interesting at the time. I rotate between video games, comics, and television
I’m definitely more of a casual iOS type of gamer these days. I’ll play for an hour or so a day while watching reality TV with my wife.
Video games are definitely the form of media that I enjoy the most. I would say I spend roughly 20 hours a week playing games. But with so much other amazing stuff out there its tough to devote all of your free time to just one type of entertainment.
The answer to this question has changed a lot for me over the years.
Back in high school and college,I would have probably voted 20-40.
Since then it has varied depending on my current job, whether or not I have a computer available, and other life factors. Right now, I went with 3-5 as I just don’t have the time to devote to playing games for more than a few minutes at a time.
I used to play quite a lot, probably 2-3hrs a day. After my son’s birth, it’s cut down to the occasional 30 min here and there and every so often late Friday or Saturday night with a friend.
I probably squeeze in about 2-3 hours a week gaming at lunch or after the kids go down.
I only drink Pepsi when playing video games, last time I had a blood test taken they found trace amounts of hemoglobin and a very lonely white cell, the rest was pretty much pure Pepsi and quite drinkable if chilled first…
I play at *least* 30 hours a week.
SWTOR at the moment.
I’m going with 3-5 – between lunch hour @ work and 30 minutes here and there on weekends that’s all I can manage.
Would love to be playing more, but work, life, family take up most of my time these days.
Though I’m trying to get the kid hooked so I can play longer – she helps me in Planetside 2 by “finding the robots” (enemy players), so it’s coming along nicely.
Usually once a week i play with some firends borderlands 2 for 3 hrs and that’s all and it’s most about spend time with old friends that don’t live around any more.
Since changing jobs to a place where I get paid less for doing more work (let’s hope not for much longer) my usual 4-5 hours a week have dwindled to a big fat goose egg. I had to put down “0”.
I chose “More than 40”, but it is conditional and requires a broadening of the term video game (such as including Second Life, which I don’t really consider an MMO, but it does have player-made MMO-like combat systems, and including video game versions of things like Scrabble). While I do spend a lot of time in MMOs and playing my consoles while home and playing my DS and occasionally a friend’s Kindle when I’m going to, from and in the waiting room of doctor’s offices, I spend an equal or greater amount of time reading.
Curse of being disabled with too much heavily medicated free time. Have to find something to fill your time while everyone else is at work, school or sleeping, and one can only watch so much TV before it gets aggrivating.
I used to play a lot more, but WOW broke me of my console RPG addiction, and then I got sick of WoW. I play Psychonauts and Cathleen on occasion when there is little else to do, but since I own a Mac and no smart phone, I don’t play many computer games or cell phone games, and now that I am seriously pushing 60, I no longer feel I can devote 100+ hours to a JRPG like Final Fantasy Whatever.
I spend about 5 or so hours a week at most playing video games, but 20-30 hours a week are spent intensely dreaming of having a computer that was sleek enough to play games made after 2003.
I used to not play video games very often at all until I got into our towns local competitive super smash bros melee scene. Now I clock in quite a few hours.
