When it comes to space travel, there are a couple of routes you can go. The first is the safe route, which means it takes 100 years or more to put a colony on the Moon, which is a good thing, because everyone knows the Moon blew up in 1999. The other is to seek out strange new worlds, and make a buck or two by smuggling spice for the Hutts. The second is a bit more reckless, but can lead to so much more in the end. Which brings us to the Major Spoilers Poll of the Week! (Week, week, weeek, weeeek, weeee, w…)

Definitely Captain Kirk. Why? He has a crew to look after! If Han Solo does something stupid, it’s just him and Chewie that face the consequences.
This was my rationale, as well. Plus, little-known space fact: Orion slave girls are turned on by responsibility.
obviously anyone that makes the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs is more reckless.
Okay just to go on record here, again. Han shot first, at Greedo no less. Obviously he is more reckless, who typically has the brass to shoot at Annakin Skywalkers boyhood friend? Han’s original Kessel run is what nerds talk/rage about to this day. Somebody who is willing to risk his own life having a Wookie for a wing man and fly purposefully near a black hole has to take the top spot here. So Han is a slam dunk for me.
Two words: Kobayashi Maru
So reckless he uses distance to measure time, Captain Solo edges out Kirk on the recklometer.
Han, he only really cares for himself so he isn’t going to take needless risks as often. It is why he initially backed off on the run against the Death Star. Kirk would willingly put himself and his crew in harms way for the sake of whatever that week;s plot was.
Solo all the way. Kirk has a crew to care for, Han only has Chewie, who can take care of himself. Also, Kirk has never successfully navigated an asteroid field.
I think it depends which Kirk we’re talking about here. The Chris Pine one in the rebooted Star Trek just might give Han Solo a run for his money . . . plus Solo was so much more reckless when he shot first!
But otherwise, Captain Solo than Captain Kirk. Solo makes mistakes. He owes too much money to a crime lord and winds up hanging from his wall. Meanwhile, the last reckless thing we see (traditional) Kirk do is fall ten feet to his doom.
You have to remember, Kirk is playing with the lives of over 400 people on that ship. It’s Kirk, for sure.
And 390 of them are red shirts.
My sentiments exactly.
Think about how reckless you have to be, to kill 2-3 redshirts per week, and come back for more the next week.
Well Han tried to navigate an asteroid field, which only has a 3,720 to 1 possibility of success. So statistically Han is more reckless.
Han may have been reckless, however I don’t believe Han would put his crew in danger by fornicating with green women at every turn. This was such a problem that in Star Trek Voyager there was a law about “getting close” to alien species without the undiscovered species getting scanned.
this was my point… the fact that Kirk “gets close” with unknown alien species makes him far more reckless. He was putting his “junk” at risk! Yikes man
Han Solo – in the EU, even at his accelerated age, he’s still throwing the Millennium Falcon into whatever hijinx he can possibly find. And more often than not, trouble comes looking for him.
Not to mention the fact that even with all of the special modifications and upgrades, the Falcon is a relic compared to most other ships out there (including many that he faces off against). It would be like taking an old boat like they used hundreds of years ago (although with a few modern add-ons, but not much) and using it to elude a fleet of modern boats and submarines.
Kirk, hands down. Solo was pretty much a loner with only himself and Chewie to care for, so if he got into trouble it wasn’t such a big deal. Kirk, on the other hand, was responsible for a crew of 400+ as well as maintaining the Prime Directive, which he ignored virtually every episode. He was even reckless enough to engage in time travel and screwing around with history quite frequently, which could have altered the entire known universe. You can’t get much more reckless than that.
One Captain’s second in command is a logical space elf, the other Captain’s second in command is a large feral Sasquatch like creature that pull’s people’s arms out of their sockets when he loses….gotta go with Captain Solo on this one.
I say Kirk!
Solo never sent a red shirt to get killed first
Wouldn’t that make Han more reckless? Kirk had the foresight to send in a red shirt to test the waters, where Han just goes rushing in!
Kirk is way more reckless. Han wanted nothing to do with invading the giant, not a moon of death. The most reckless thing he did was chase after a few Stormtroopers and then proceeded to wisely retreat when they came after him.
On the other hand Kirk stole the Enterprise, blew up a planet, hijacked a klingon bird of prey, went back in time to save some whales. Let’s not forget, he also directed Star Trek V…I rest my case.
^ This.
Kirk, it might seem like it was the fall that killed him, but… Well, alien STDs, nuff said.
Also the guy puts his whole crew, Starfleet, the known universe and parallel universes in jeopardy on daily basis, when he utters the words “Let’s have a look shall we?” the Universe trembles and red shirts start writing their wills…
If you take into account who they have next to them, Solo is more reckless. Spock is a better safety net than Chewie.
