CRITICAL HIT: Official Character Designs – Day One: Meet Orem

    Stephen SchleicherBy Stephen SchleicherJune 4, 2012Updated:February 10, 201447 Comments1 Min Read

    OremPICON

There are a number of things we are working behind the scenes at Major Spoilers, and today we are pleased to announce the official Critical Hit Character Designs, by our friend Thomas Perkins.

You may remember Thomas Perkins from his excellent work on Ben 10, Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Green Lantern, and of course, our Hero History of Kablamakus! Thomas approached us quite a while ago about providing art, and over the last couple of years, we’ve honed everything down to where we are happy to show off the first official character designs to you, our faithful Spoilerites and Critites.

All this week we will introduce a character and design to you, and since Critical Hit began with the introduction of Orem, we thought it best to start our character look with you as well.

    OremDAY1

I don’t think we need to tell you to use the comment section below – because we know you will.  We are extremely pleased with the designs, and hope you are too!

      Love it!
Can’t wait to see the rest of the characters.

      • Nathan Steffens on October 21, 2021 1:47 pm

Was Orem a swordmage or is that a class in 4e

    2. Simon Chambers on June 4, 2012 10:30 am

Fantastic! I especially like how he’s standing on Torq’s head. Wait, you mean that’s *not* Torq?

But seriously, that’s some awesome artwork to go with an awesome show!

    3. The Great NateO on June 4, 2012 10:34 am

OH MY, OH MY, OH MY. This is Awesome and can not wait for the rest of them and, I hope, some action pictures of all the team(s). This ROCKS!!!

    4. Ricco on June 4, 2012 10:43 am

He looks older then in my head, but he does looks just as evil mid fight as I always saw him :)

    5. J_Michael_T on June 4, 2012 10:49 am

Stephen, you were right. This is awesome.

    6. Vistapa on June 4, 2012 10:57 am

this is beyond cool, can’t wait to “know” the rest of the gang

    7. MiskatonicRich on June 4, 2012 11:10 am

      1. totally awesome for Orem after some seasoning
      2. I wonder how much more Poofy and less Bad Ass lvl 1 Orem would have been.

Can’t wait to see what else is coming.

      • Locknestra on June 7, 2012 5:09 pm

        This. So much! lol

Though, I think a Frou frou Orem pic is in order too.

    8. herebewonder on June 4, 2012 11:21 am

This needs to be a cartoon 20 years ago so I could watch it after school.
Can it come on after G.I.Joe?

      -c

    9. jeremiedunlap on June 4, 2012 11:30 am

If you look up the word ‘Awesome’ in Wikipedia, you get a re-direct to this page on the MajorSpoilers website….

    10. Matthew Peterson on June 4, 2012 12:31 pm

This is phenomenal work. Kudos to Mr. Perkins!

      • Thomas Perkins on June 4, 2012 4:37 pm

Hey Matthew! Thanks a lot, man, I hope you dug your character as well. :)

    11. Galactoss on June 4, 2012 12:51 pm

That is some nice art! On its own merits, as well as it being Orem. I love the monochrome/green contrast idea. Generally, I tend to just visualise you guys (mostly) sitting round a table when I’m listening, so I’m definitely looking forward to seeing more of how everyone is “meant to” look.

    12. Hendral on June 4, 2012 1:05 pm

That would make a excellent T-shirt design, especially with glow-in-the-dark ink for all the green parts.

    13. @lantis on June 4, 2012 1:39 pm

What is that creature Orem is stepping on supposed to be? Is it a TP original, or something from the campaign?

It is great work, as I would expect from Mr. Perkins.

    14. Marco on June 4, 2012 1:44 pm

This is Awesome! Can’t wait for the other guys also!

    15. Bruce on June 4, 2012 1:47 pm

Hope we get to see some Candleheads and Warblers. Mr. Perkins does awesome monsters!

    16. The Great NateO on June 4, 2012 1:52 pm

SO, when will we see these items in the Major Spoilers Store?????????

    17. David on June 4, 2012 1:54 pm

      Excellent!

Now we need a cosplayer in this costume standing next to the “welcome to Orem, UT” sign…

Or is that too much real-life in my fantasy-life?

      • Stephen Schleicher on June 4, 2012 2:14 pm

There would be a special prize if someone did that for realz and it met our level of critique.

    18. Praion on June 4, 2012 1:55 pm

What is he casting? Force Orb? Hypnotic Pattern?

      • Georgedubya on June 4, 2012 6:05 pm

I think he’s got Shield up and is preparing to “Pew-pew” with a Magic Missile.

    19. Adam on June 4, 2012 2:48 pm

I have been desperately praying someone on deviant art or etsy would create a poster sized version of the end of the skill challenge from episode 125, with Orem popping onto the lodestar, and Randus flying in using an explosive barrel and Torque bearing Ket leaping onto the rock with Guy just barely clinging to Ket. Please Please Please make this happen.

      • Stephen Schleicher on June 4, 2012 5:02 pm

If someone is doing that and selling it on Esty, it would be a violation of copyright. Your best bet is to buy Critical Hit merchandise directly from Major Spoilers so as not to break the law, and to ensure funds are going to those who are creating the content you love.

    20. Anonymous on June 4, 2012 6:52 pm

      This kills SO many friends!

    21. Adriana on June 4, 2012 7:40 pm

oh my god!! I’m so happy there’s ~’Official’~ art!! Look at that detail! And the monster is SO COOL!

      • Brian on June 5, 2012 2:27 pm

So your rendition of Trell is not canon or official? I really liked it and suggest you point Mr Perkins at your tumblr.

        • Thomas Perkins on June 5, 2012 4:02 pm

Adriana’s take IS canon. I am working with her design.

          • Dan on June 5, 2012 4:06 pm

For some reason I might have heard a *squee* across the internet.

          • Brian on June 7, 2012 12:36 pm

Awesome, totally awesome. I love your work man.

        • Adriana on June 5, 2012 9:19 pm

hahaha, I made that expressly FOR Mr. Perkins to work with <3

    22. Gary on June 4, 2012 8:07 pm

This has me really excited for some Randus imagery… been struggling to keep his modifications straight in my head.

    23. Dan on June 4, 2012 8:23 pm

Very cool. Can’t wait to see the rest of the group. But I have to say though he looks slightly more evil then I see in my head and less fancy. Still awesome and if/when a poster of this comes out that I can buy *hint hint* I’m gonna need all of them and a group shot. Probably going to need to start clearing room on my wall for them.

      • Gary on June 5, 2012 3:34 am

I don’t know, I always thought Orem got pretty vicious once things kicked off.

    24. Slappy on June 4, 2012 9:05 pm

When does critical hit the comic book come out?

    25. Kirby on June 4, 2012 10:20 pm

      Now I’d like a Critical Hit cartoon…

      • MiskatonicRich on June 5, 2012 9:00 am

I was thinking he same thing. Critical Hit animated series!

    26. Robbie on June 4, 2012 11:18 pm

Amazing. What piece of Major Spoilers art I want to see is the Panera Bread from a few Top Fives ago :)

    27. andreas on June 5, 2012 5:49 am

      E-P-I-C-!

    28. Oldcomicfan on June 5, 2012 7:38 pm

So when does the Graphic Novel come out?

    29. litanyofthieves on June 5, 2012 11:49 pm

The real question is… if this were turned into a Cartoon, who would voice each character?

      For me:

      John DiMaggio = Torq
      Dante Basco = Orem
      Nathan Fillion = Randus
      Wally Winger = Ket
      Grey DeLisle = Trelle

And of course Dee Bradley Baker, Tress MacNeil and Maurice LaMarche would do all the NPC characters.

      • Matthew Peterson on June 6, 2012 1:05 pm

I will not participate in the cartoon unless Torq is voiced by Frank Welker.

        • Stephen Schleicher on June 6, 2012 1:22 pm

Yay! More money for me! I mean us… excluding you… YAY!

    30. Emilie on June 7, 2012 5:47 pm

Yay! Orem is as awesome looking in a fight as I expected! Amazing!

    31. DannoE on June 8, 2012 9:34 am

Awesome. Granted I didn’t picture Orem looking quite that mean, but the design is WAY cool.

    32. Zacko on June 13, 2012 12:22 pm

I’m going through the entire archive and am on episode 80. Has Orem multiclassed into Swordmage?
