Who would have thought the first Smurfs movie would have been as huge a success as it was; the movie brought in $563 million worldwide, which prompted Sony to jump on board a Smurfs sequel. But is the world ready for three Smurfs movie?
Sony feels so confident that Smurfs 2 is going to be a huge success, it has already given the green light to Smurfs 3. While we don’t have a release date for the third chapter in the trilogy, Smurfs 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on July 31, 2013.
A live-action/CG hybrid, “Smurfs 2” has already started production, with most of the original cast back for the sequel, including stars Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays and Hank Azaria. New cast members include Brendan Gleeson, J.B. Smoove as a naughty smurf named Hackus and Christina Ricci as Vexy, an evil version of Smurfette (Katy Perry).
Christina Ricci and Katy Perry in the same movie? Hmmmmm….
