While Dark Horse may not be one of the Bit Two publishers, the San Diego Comic Con is really shaping up to be a big announcement show for the company. First they announced three new series, and now word has it that Sony Pictures Animation has teamed with the publisher to bring Chris Crine’s “Chickenhare” to the big screen.
In 2006, Dark Horse started publishing the graphic novel that revolves around a half-chicken, half-rabbit that goes on adventures with his shelled sidekick, Abe, facing monstrous creatures and demonic critters.
No writer or director has been hired, but DHC President Mike Richardson and Keith Goldberg will executive produce the film.
“Chris Grine’s Chickenhare is one of the quirkiest characters we’ve ever published,” Richardson said. “We’re excited that the good people at Sony Pictures Animation responded so enthusiastically. In Chickenhare we found a character so colorful and three-dimensional that he could only exist in an animated world.”
I’ll admit, I haven’t read this one, but before it gets to the theater, it may need to be a book for an upcoming Major Spoilers Podcast discussion.
