Press Release
Giving back to the community is an important aspect of Derby City Comic Con. Who better to help do that than LEO’s 2010 Louisvillian of the Year and Wave 3 news anchor, Dawne Gee? Gee will be the host of the 2011 Derby City Comic Con Charity Auction, held as a part of Derby City Comic Con and featuring original art from many of the convention’s guests. The auction will begin at 2 PM.
The auction’s proceeds will benefit two causes that focus on community. The first recipient represents the local, physical community. The Library Foundation, is a non-profit organization that supports and organizes events within the Louisville Free Public Library System. The money donated from the auction will be earmarked for comic related materials for the library system.
The second beneficiary represents the comic community: Jamie D, one of the co-hosts of the popular podcast Comic Geek Speak. Two years ago, Jamie found himself in the 1% of males diagnosed with breast cancer. His initial rounds of treatment seemed to be successful, but within a few months, it returned, this time worse than before. His battle began anew. Half of the proceeds of the auction will go toward the mounting medical bills accrued in his battle with cancer.
Derby City Comic Con will take place Saturday, July 16, 2011 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Kentucky International Convention Center in downtown Louisville. Admission is $7 for adults and free for children under 12 with a paid adult admission. Tickets can be purchased now at ear X-tacy, The Great Escape, Comic Book World and The Zone Comic Shop.
