Adam Hughes has been absent from the Art Appreciation Moment of the Day for a while now, so we’re attempting to rectify that oversight with his take on famous female comic book heroes.
Client: WIZARD Magazine
Media: Pencil, ink, and Adobe PhotoshopAnother from the vault! This one is from…. 1997? Grampa’s memory is going.
It’s old, and shows my first fetal steps at doing computer coloring. This was just around the time I was starting my run on the WONDER WOMAN covers. It was fun doing all these gals from the different companies!

Isn’t it weird that since this drawing, all of the characters have changed costume except for Witchblade (and possibly the girl from Gen13)?
Looks good. Sue’s kind of short there. She’s only an inch shorter than Wanda.
Said in Comic Book Guy voice.
remember buying this issue of Wizard;
as a 15 year old it provided much “stimulus”.
as a 28 year old it’s still pretty captivating.
as memory serves the picture’s from pretty early in the scheme of comic characters looking like actual people and not 2D ciphers with different haircuts.
AH, yes, the wonderful Adam Hughes! If only he would do more interior work rather than just all those covers. Either way the man definitely has a way when it comes to drawing the gals!
Adam Hughes is one of comicdom’s best cheesecake artists. Even in that picture, you can see he never sacrifices personality for sexiness; he can mix the two seamlessly.
HEEELLLOOOOO Nurse! (Apologies to the Animaniacs, which was one of my kid’s favorite toons way back when.
WW inna cape?
Like Sue with earrings and so petite-you DON’T have to be a 6’2″ woman to be strong, y’know.
