Disney has announced the release date for two of the studio’s 2012 movies in 3-Dimensions. Frankenweenie will open on March 09, 2012, while John Carter of Mars heads to theaters on June 08, 2012. It’s odd that Disney is announcing these as the release dates, as they could easily change the John Carter release date so it doesn’t conflict with Pixar’s Brave, that arrives a week later.
Set in the wounded planet of Mars, JOHN CARTER OF MARS chronicles the journey of Civil-War veteran John Carter (TAYLOR KITSCH), who finds himself battling a new and mysterious war amidst a host of strange Martian inhabitants, including Tars Tarkas (WILLEM DAFOE) and Dejah Thoris (LYNN COLLINS).
I’m cautious yet optimistic that Andrew Stanton will pull off the John Carter movie, but the gimmicky 3D push tends to tip the movie into the Don’t Care to See category for me.

There’s already a Princess of Mars movie that went straight to video with Antonio Sabato Jr. playing John Carter, I mean that one was done so well, I just don’t see why Disney would want to make a new one. I agree though, as soon as I hear 3D I stop caring as well.
