I agree, I’m really digging Takara’s work on The Incredibles – it really captures the feel of the movie without trying to look like digital renderings.
What really makes good cartoony artwork, IMO, is facial expressions. When an artist can do cartoon facial expressions that are over the top and funny, but still evoke the emotion they are meant to convey, it just pulls me in.

I love the smooth, elegant lines. It flows really well and makes a static image come alive with implied movement. It’s more than just a pose.
