As far as I can tell, New Line is still planning for a Hobbit movie (or two), but the release date looks to have been pushed back once again. The first installment of the two-parter was originally scheduled for a holiday 2011 release, but stories spreading across the Intardwebz and on sites like Variety have the film pushed back to 2012. Considering New Line is in league with MGM/UA on the deal, and the MGM money woes haven’t been settled, it doesn’t surprise me that the movie continues to be pushed. The problem is, continued delays could very easily cause some of the key players to move on to other jobs and opportunities, thus causing real interest in the film by distributors and viewers to wane.
