Gareb Shamus has quietly been acquiring various comic conventions from around the country and rebranding them under the Wizard World banner. For the most part, the new conventions have had some positive reactions, but yesterday’s announcement that Shamus purchased the Atlanta Comic Con, probably has many flashing back to the last time Wizard World attempted to make inroads in the ATL.
While there’s nothing wrong with the purchase of the convention, and as former owner Wes Tillander says, “There are so many facets of this industry that comics fans appreciate and expect to see as part of a show. With Wizard producing the show, I know that mixed presentation idea will really thrive,” I just hope the TBA doesn’t get changed to June 4 – 6, 2010.
