    Karate Kid trailer arrives

Stephen SchleicherBy Stephen SchleicherDecember 23, 20098 Comments1 Min Read

I’ve had really mixed feelings about the latest Karate Kid movie.  Reports claim this is a direct remake of the original, but after seeing the trailer, I see it more as a reboot of the series much like this past summer’s Star Trek movie instead of a remake; almost like continuing the story in a different universe.

There are certainly moments in the trailer that are directly from the first movie, and the action looks good, but “Pick Up the Jacket” doesn’t have the same ring to it as “Wax On – Wax Off”.

Blame it on 80’s nostalgia, but the trailer had me at “take your jacket off” and the fly bit.

      “Jack it off!” … uh-huh…

I laughed at the fly-swatting gag.

In the 80s it was ‘wax off’ (whacks off), now it’s ‘jacket off’ (jack it off). Either way, it’ll still make my inner adolescent chuckle when I hear it.

shouldn’t this be “The Kung Fu Kid”?

Wait, if he’s obviously learning a form of kung fu, why the hell are they still calling it the Karate Kid?

At least in the original Miyagi kicks the crap out of what one could consider late teens/early twenty-somethings, rather than Mr. Han beating a bunch of 12 year olds. And, who moves to China to “start over”? My inner child has been insulted.

WTF is this garbage? Don’t rape my childhood, offspring of Will Smith, raper of the rest of my childhood. Whats next, Goonies remake? Hells no.

This shit is why I don’t socialize.
