The Boys has been focusing on origin stories as of late, and as soon as the Frenchman and The Female origins are complete, Garth Ennis and John McCrea will kick off a new story arc, called “The Innocents” beginning with issue #40. Issue #39 will be a prologue issue called “What I Know”.
“Issue 39 begins with everybody happy. Hughie and Annie are blissfully in love, MM’s enjoying some R&R, Frenchie’s even making some progress with the Female’s more extreme psychotic tendencies, and Butcher’s doing what he likes most: digging up all kinds of awful dirt on people. Twenty-two pages later it’s all starting to unravel, and what everyone thought they knew is overturned in the worst possible way,” said Ennis in a prepared statement.
Sounds like things are going to get really bad for The Boys. If you want a good laugh, you might want to check out The Boys #37, which Matthew reviewed on the most recent Major Spoilers Podcast.

That cover says it all…dun dun DUN!
I just cant get excited for McCrea’s pencils. Give us Darick back full time please!
Seriously, the Boys is beyond moronic these days. It’s been Hughie’s job for TWO YEARS now to do surveillance on The Seven, and it’s never occurred to him that he’s banging one of them? Ennis is so sloppy and uncaring on this book that it’s amazing he still even bothers to write it. His heart clearly isn’t in it.

I don’t know about sloppiness or hearts, but I will tell you that Issue #37 was wonderfully concieved and drawn from top to bottom. As always, mileage may vary.
