When I was in college, I worked for Disney World in Orlando, and one of the best things about the experience (besides all the people I met) was free park access. Being able to go to the parks at anytime meant we quickly discovered the best times and worst times to get on certain attractions. One of our favorite rides at the time was Star Tours. Timed just right we could ride four or five times in a row before other park visitors showed up. Nothing says fun like sitting in the prime seat and getting tossed around non-stop until you were ready to throw up.
Good times.
During the D23 Expo in Anaheim, Jay Rasulo, Chairman, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, announced that Star Tours in its current form is shutting down, with a brand new Star Tours II launching in Disneyland in 2011.
Check out the teaser.
Please don’t let it have Jar Jar Binks in it.

Oh man, I don’t want this happen if they’re gonna focus on the prequels instead of the original trilogy. The Death Star trench run was one of the best things about the original Star Tours…
I have no interest in pod-racing or flying through ships from the Clone Wars. Bah!
I’m really glad that my family got to go to Disney for the last 2 years, my wife had never ridden Star Tours before until 2008, and we were able to take our 2 boys on it this year (the 4 year old was just barley on the height line) and they both enjoyed it…although I doubt they will remember it.
This was a favorite of mine as well since it opened. And we were there during the Star Wars weekend this last year which was awesome!
I really hate that they couldn’t keep the old one and open a new Star Tours II, some classics just don’t need to be replaced.
Cool I love the Star Tours ride and a new one will be just as cool I hope. I dont mind that it’s going with the prequel and I think Im the only one who actually enjoys the podrace scene in episode 1.
