Archie Comics has announced that Michael Uslan, the executive producer of The Dark Knight and Batman Begins, and the writer behind the Archie Marries Veronica storyline, is also the mind behind Pureheart the Powerful (aka Archie as a superhero).
Michael Uslan explains “We’re not just talking ONE super-hero here! Archie will be joined by Betty as Superteen, Jughead as Captain Hero, Reggie as Evilheart, Jr., and wait’ll you see the super-versions of Veronica, Dilton and Moose! Surprises galore are just ahead!”
Michael Uslan continues “Pureheart and Pureheart’s Emergency Patrol will debut in a series of five one-shot comic books that bring back to life the five historic super-hero titles that launched The Archie Comics, originally known as MLJ Comics, back in the Golden Age of the 1930’s and 40’s:”
The one-shots include Pep Comics, Jackpot Comics, Blue Ribbon Comics, Zip Comics, and Top-Notch Laugh Comics.

Well, I guess they do count as Archie/MLJ heroes….
Okay, I like the idea of the one-shots. But why not use the MLJ heroes that are not licensed to DC in those titles? I still hold out hope beyond hope that we will see those heroes in their own universe published at Archie in some form or fashion.
The Pureheart stuff will be some good reading I am sure, nice and light, and will be appreciated. Will there be any reprint plans of the original stories, which are pretty hard to find.
