Major Spoilers Costume Contest 2008: Meet the Entrants

Oh boy, did we get a lot of people entering the second annual Major Spoilers Costume Contest.  There were over 50 entries from 20 entrants (yes, some people entered multiple times).  Personally, I think all those who entered the contest deserve kudos for taking the time to make their costume and sending it out for the world to see.  You can tell some of the entrants spent a great deal of time on their costumes, and really get into their work.

Without further ado, take the jump to see all the entrants for this year’s contest.

    UPDATE:  Voting is now open!

    UPDATE #2:  WINNER ANNOUNCED!

Once again, we had multiple Batman entries

    01.jpg

Yes, this is a Batman entry and not a Poison Ivy entry.  Ivy is simply a prop for this entrant, as she won last year’s contest with her Catwoman costume.

    14b.jpg

    And Batman villains

    15b.jpg

    Superman showed up this year

    14d.jpg

    as did Bizzaro

    02c.jpg

DC characters abound in the contest this year

    Like Black Adam

    02b.jpg

    Green Lantern

    11b.jpg

And apparently the entire Green Lantern Corps

    18.jpg

    and his Earth-3 counterpart

    14g.jpg

Can’t have a contest without Wonder Woman!

    15a.jpg

    And Donna Troy

    15l.jpg

But don’t think this is a DC only contest, as there were plenty of Marvel characters too.

    15k.jpg

    15m.jpg

    17.jpg

There’s also an army of Iron Men!  Thanks to Brent Williamson for taking the time to work with kids in his area to make up these costumes!

    03.jpg

Should I be concerned there were more people dressed as villains than heroes?

This year Major Spoilers also had more than a few movie and television entrants…

    10a.jpg

    10b.jpg

    15n.jpg

And it is always nice to see someone enter who is actually a character from video games.

    19.jpg

And don’t forget the rest of the comic scene

    07b.jpg

    08.jpg

    09.jpg

    16a.jpg

Alas, William Shatner did not take us up on the challenge to enter the contest dressed as Kirk.

So who made the finals?  I have to say all the entrants were really good.  So good that we here at the Major Spoilers HQ are still tabulating the our top 5.  Those finalists will be announced tomorrow, along with the opening of the Major Spoilers Costume Contest voting system, where you, yes you get to decide who will win the grand prize.

Thanks again to everyone who entered.  Those who didn’t, now have 360 days until the deadline for the Third Annual Major Spoilers Costume Contest.

      My Top 5

Wonderwoman: including Donna Troy, awesome likeness seriously! And great poses.

Red Skull…. So much awesome, so many details….Horribly good! (Actually frightening)

Two Face: I feel slanted because its one of my favorite characters, but then i look again and see the contactlenses, the Janus suit and the hair color. Major Kudos!

Doom: The eyes, you have the eyes of a madman. And the suit is an awesome piece of work in itself!

Ms Marvel: Awesome background and the perspective is great. Once again there’s an eerie likeness.

      OH WHO AM I KIDDING!
Black Cat, Spiderman, Superman They are all freaking phenomenal!

    2. Creep on October 26, 2008 2:20 pm

      hm….

      Red Skull is genius
      Two Face too…
the last one….who is that? great dress
I like Ivy in the first one, ’cause of the courage for nudity (but she should be green…)..a pitty, that’s just the Batman
      but who’s that http://www.majorspoilers.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10a/costumecontest2008/15i.jpg ??

    3. baal on October 26, 2008 4:29 pm

My personal votes have to go to the Donna Troy, Ms Marvel, and the White Queen lookalikes. All three were amazing…

    4. campaigner on October 26, 2008 4:33 pm

The Red Skull is an awesome photo.
Probably also an awesome costume, tough I can’t make out everything due to the lighting.

      My other favs include:
      Black Cat
      Phoenix
      and *gasp* Hordak!

    5. Roy on October 26, 2008 4:44 pm

Yeah, the Hordak one threw me for a loop! I had forgotten all about him!

That Two-Face was INCREDIBLY well done. The detail in the makeup was spectacular.

    6. Lifeisaglitch on October 26, 2008 5:32 pm

Oh btw i feel the Punisher one shouldnt go this far without a mention. Looks gritty, has a ton of detail, and the dude actually makes a badass stance…Still he looks a lot like the dude from WANTED which threw me off for a bit.

BTW is that Julian in the fedora and if so who is he supposed to be?? O_o

    7. mosdef on October 26, 2008 6:36 pm

red skull ftw!!!! ms. marvel ftw!!!

    8. xrayguy on October 26, 2008 7:51 pm

Extra credit points need to go to the Batman in front of the corrugated steel wall- he has the authentic pose from the plastic hobby model is had in the 60s. On another note, some GUYS should reallly think about wearing full body spandex in public. There’s a reason some costumes NEED those boxer shorts…or a jockstrap…or a cup… or some tape.
I dunno- female costume, all look great, Black Widow and Wonder Woman are neck and neck to me…OK Natasha wins for that great gold belt, but only just. Red Skull gets it for concept.

    9. hermit on October 26, 2008 7:57 pm

wow, my costume is nowhere near that good. good thing i didn’t enter. but wait for next year.

i like the first poison ivy… i mean, the first batman

    10. OS Perry on October 26, 2008 9:10 pm

I liked the Ms. Marvel, and Black Widow, probably the best.

Two Face was awesome, as was Red Skull. The Batman I liked… Bizarro and Black Adam too.

Yeah the spandex… revealing too much, as well as the one Poison Ivy with Bats. I did like the 2nd Poison Ivy a lot.

Electro… I don’t like the photo, too close up, but I’d probably like a full costume shot. Good effort. Doom, Green Goblin and Harley Quinn I liked too. I would have liked to have seen a larger shot of HQ.

Very good entries this year. Wonder Woman and Donna Troy are great as well. Oh and the Green outfitted Rogue too. Too many to list. Tough Decision.

Probably a tie with Ms. Marvel and Black Widow for me. I like Ms M as a character more, though.

    11. Kirby on October 26, 2008 9:52 pm

Have to say I preferred the 2nd Riddler or Wonder Woman the most. Not to be negatvie, but some of the guys gave me flashbacks to Alex Ross’s JSA cover with Citizen Steel.

    12. Eric on October 26, 2008 10:15 pm

The Red Skull and Dr. Doom were in the last issue of Wizard too.

My personal fave so far has to be Hordak!

    13. Andrew on October 27, 2008 12:11 am

I personally like the Phoenix costume. Although the green suit would have made more sense to me, but that’s just me.
I also love the Rebel “soon to be dead” soldier. Great costume while being very simple

    14. Rodrigo on October 27, 2008 12:39 am

      @ Creep

That’s Rogue, for a while the X-men were dressing up in black and red with red shades.

    15. Andrew on October 27, 2008 3:47 pm

dammit….wish the entry date was a bit later, ive got a killer Ash (Evil Dead 2)costume. Not to mention my Roschach (Watchmen) costume new to this year.

    16. Spoot on October 28, 2008 12:55 pm

Rofl, the 2nd batman is way too skinny.

My personal favs are the Two Face, Red Skull, and Dr. Doom.

    17. Eons_past (Julian) on October 28, 2008 5:14 pm

      @lifeisaglitch

That is indeed me. I’m “the Spirit” aka one of the “safest” costumes on that list.

    18. Sarah on October 29, 2008 1:55 pm

Actually, Creep, that costume is taken from the Alex Ross version of Poison Ivy for the Justice series. She is not green. I even bought the action figure for comparison.

Believe me, I worked my butt off to make that costume accurate to the artwork. Thankfully it grew back before I had to wear it! Had to cover up the Batman tattoo – I thought that would be inappropriate to the character.

I’m a little sad my Bats didn’t make the cut, but I’m looking forward to seeing how the contest works out this year. Still not sure who I want to vote for, though…

    19. Northwind on November 3, 2008 12:42 am

personally vote for bazaaro but that is because he’s a friend of mine.. but honestly a lot of great entrants . almost too hard to decided if I had not already decided to back my friend. the red skull has kudos from me because he just freaks me out.

    20. nt on November 3, 2008 7:51 pm

second poison ivy is smoking hot

    21. MadCow on January 4, 2009 1:06 am

I vote for 2nd poison ivy too, damn good cosplay.

    22. bob on April 2, 2009 1:44 pm

LOL I have always heard that only the Japanese do good cosplay. Have seen millions of side by side pictures of an asian with an incredible costume and an american with some crappy store bought costume for the same character. Yea, americans do suck at anime cosplay, I just didn’t realize how kickass they were with our own animation characters. This almost warrants finding asian people doing the same characters in a crappy store bought costume and putting them side by side with these pictures.
I’m sure a lot of lazy bloggers who rip images from other webpages are already on it ;)

    23. vdeogmer on April 11, 2009 5:05 am

That one dude with the Green Lantern shirt and a YELLOW hat made me lol.

    24. Izz on April 13, 2009 1:31 pm

Felt a bit patriotic when I saw Capt. Britain :]

    25. jpople on February 10, 2010 1:16 pm

      Captain Hammer FTW.

    26. powerdarnell on September 15, 2011 4:05 pm

What were the video game ones supposed to be? Just characters in Guitar Hero?
