“The Schleicher” is an awesome friggin nick name, i think i might call myself that
My list of running comics that are good for new readers.
This criteria is based upon at least one of the following:
1. Generally Stable Concept
2. Recognizable Characters (Even for someone in a cave for the last 50 years)\
3. Consistant storytelling and characterizations
4. reoccuring themes
5. Cool or Classic Art
My Choices in no particular order
1. Legion of Superheroes
2. Fantastic Four
3. Amazing Spider-Man
4. Thor
5. Trinity
6. JLA
7. Astonishing X-Men
8. Teen Titans
9. Invincible
10. Any Star Wars Property
I was surprised you didn’t mention Y:The Last Man. I introduced one and a half female friends of mine to comics with it (one was already something of a Spider-Man fangirl). It’s a great story, it’s got strong female characters and is nicely drawn (nothing too fancy or experimental).
Great show, btw.
I don’t know if i was clear, but I was offering comics that are currently running. While both Y and Preacher are some of my favorites, they have both ended. When preacher was running, that was a book I used to hook people. You have to love a minister whose best friend is a drunk Irish vampire.
@ Slappy: I didn’t mean you especially, but the cast as well. But thanks for answering. ;)
I am at the second trade of Preacher atm and plan to finish it at some indefinite point in the future. :)
While I enjoy Preacher, I wouldn’t have given it to my friend to introduce her to comics. Firstly, I think the artwork in Y is a bit noobie-friendlier (Preacher is a bit crude), and secondly, well there’s all that violence going on in Preacher.
