According to the Hollywood Reporter, Beau Garrett and Andre Braugher have been cast in Tim Story’s Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Garrett will play Frankie Raye, while Braugher is cast as a general in charge of capturing the Silver Surfer. Fans of the HBO series Entourage will recognize Garrett from season one as the girlfriend who connect the guys with her sherpa.
Frankie Raye originally appeared as the Human Torch’s girlfriend, but became Nova when she volunteered to be the Herald of Galactus.
Garrett was just so so in the Entourage episode, so here’s hoping she can take it up a notch for this film. I loved Braugher’s Frank Pembleton character from Homicide: Life on the Streets and believe he will bring that intensity to the role of “Military General”. The one thing I see as a problem for the upcoming movie, is it appears they are trying to cram too much into one film. Unless it is going to be three hours long, the complex story arcs and character development could easily be lost. Would be interesting to see if Marvel and 20th Century Fox would allow Story to pull a Quentin and release Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer in two parts. They wouldn’t even need have a full year between releases; four months would be plenty.
Shooting is currently underway in Vancouver for the 20th Century Fox flick.
