Over at the Diamond Select Toys booth, the company is showing off the 42nd series of Marvel Minimates (aka Toys R Us Wave 12).
Though I’m patiently waiting for LEGO to send over some high-res images of their upcoming LEGO SUPER HERO line, The Source, actually posted a pic that not only includes Batman (whom we’ve seen before in LEGO form), but also Superman and Green Lantern – SWEET! There are a couple of interesting things about the above image; first – Green Lantern’s costume is the movie version of the suit. Second – Superman STILL has red trunks. It seems like forever ago that the DC Universe Legion of Super-Heroes 12 Pack was announced by Mattel. It looks like the figures will be available real soon, as Action Figure Insider spotted the packaged figures on the SDCC show floor. via Action Figure Insider
I’m still surprised by the DC/Marvel/LEGO news, and while we don’t have images of the minifigure line yet, LEGO did send us a teaser video for the line.
WOW! I was pretty excited about the announcement that LEGO has teamed with Warner Bros., but now we learn that the toy manufacturer has also teamed with Marvel Entertainment. THIS IS A REALLY BIG DEAL! If everything comes together in this LEGO SUPER HERO line, expect to see a lot of epic battles between Spider-Man and Batman!
Diamond Select Toys has announced that the company is revisiting old Spider-Man foes, and have decided that the Green Goblin will be the next character to get the Marvel Select Figure treatment. The new Green Goblin figure is based on the Marvel Milestones statue of the character that Diamond Select Toys released back in 2004, featuring a more modern take on the villain than our initial, classic interpretation. While I liked what LEGO did with the Batman sets from a few years ago, I was always hoping for more from the toy company. Looks like that wish is coming true as DC and LEGO have expanded their relationships allowing LEGO to access the complete library of comic book characters and stories to launch DCU Super Heroes. The multi-year licensing deal, made through Warner Bros. Consumer Products, will start rolling out the new line in January, starting with 13 characters, including Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and villains the Joker, Bane, Harley Quinn and Lex Luthor. Though the movie is a way off and the teaser trailer got yanked, Entertainment Weekly was able to debut new images of The Amazing Spider-Man’s new costume. While those are nice, what about the movie toy tie-ins? Looks like USA Today was given the scoop with images of the new action figure set to debut this week at the San Diego Comic Con.

I absolutely LOVE the high end statues and collectibles Sideshow Collectibles has been putting out these last several years based on Marvel, Dark Horse, and Star Wars properties. While the DC Direct statues are nice, having a premium format polystone statue of Wonder Woman, Zatanna, Harley Quinn, and more, makes this announcement one that makes may wallet and credit card grown knowing they will be used quite a bit in the coming years.
