Heroes Saves NBC

The Fall television season hasn’t been off to a great start. All of the freshmen series have had less than stellar starts until Monday night’s debut of Heroes. According to Variety, NBC topped its broadcast rivals in a 4.7 share compared to CBS’ 4.4 share.  This is the highest rating for the 18-49 demographic NBC has had for any Fall show in five years. According to Nielsen nationals, “Heroes” bowed to a 5.9 rating/14 share in adults 18-49 and 14.10 million viewers overall — growing 55% from its “Deal or No Deal” lead-in (3.8/10, 13.00m). In a good sign, the…

Scott Johnson Reviews Heroes

I’m still mighty mad at NBC and iTunes for that “free download” scam from a couple of weeks ago, so I haven’t had a chance to watch the kick off episode.  As soon as I get to my TiVo it is first on the list, and I’ll post my views here. Until then, Scott Johnson at Extra Life has posted his views and comments on the debut: Why does everyone have to be young a pretty? Why can’t we have an old man or something? I know we get the fat cop next week, and we have the funny Japan…

Marvel Stop Motion Animation

I’m a big fan of stop motion animation; pose the figure, take a snap, adjust the figure, take a snap, and so on. Lego had a stop motion set about 7 years ago using Marvel’s Spider-Man characters, but that was quite pricey. Jazwares has released their own stop motion package called Marvel Heroes Ani-Movie. Aimed at kids this $59.99 package contains several backgrounds and four flat cardboard figures (Spider-Man, Hulk, Green Goblin, and Dr. Doom). Cardboard? Come on, gimme a break, this thing will last all of 20 minutes before Bobby and Susie get in a fight and rip the…

Hellboy Animated Locked

Tad Stones has posted on the Hellboy Animated blog site to let everyone know Hellboy: The Sword of Storms is picture locked (the timing won’t change). Looks like the feature will come in between 75 and 76 minutes by the time it is released on the Cartoon Network in October. Chris Drake is now scoring music to the exact frame. The guys at Audio Circus are deciding how long the sound of a zombie head exploding should be. Does it last as long as the visual or are the last wisps of zombie dust silent? Meanwhile, the visuals are tweaked.…

Yuri Lowenthal Interview

Comics Continuum has posted an interview with Yuri Lowenthal – the voice of Clark Kent/Superboy in the upcoming Legion of Superheroes cartoon. Here’s what I love about this incarnation of Superman: he’s not at all the leader. He’s not Mr. Confident. He’s actually pretty lost on many different levels. He’s at the point in his life where he knows he’s got these powers but is still kind of unclear about his role in the world and his mighty destiny. If you can’t wait until it’s debut on September 23, 2006, head over to the official website for behind the scenes sneak peak at the characters, episode guide, image gallery and more.  Actually there’s not much there right now, but presumably after the show launches in a couple of weeks, the site will magically fill with content. via Kids’ WB! (Cartoon Network Press Release)Boosted by the heroic exploits of its newest animated series from Marvel Comics and Moonscoop Animation, Cartoon Network’s premiere of Fantastic Four (Saturday, 8 p.m.) scored double-digit delivery and ratings gains among targeted kids 6-11, according to preliminary data from Nielsen Media Research. Even More Wild Aquaman Speculation

The Detroit News is still fanning the speculation that Aquaman may be resurrected from the depths of Davey Jones’ Locker. Fan and blog sites (like Major Spoilers) have been pushing the idea that the success of Aquaman on iTunes should convince the networks to reconsider the show. The CW network, who dropped the pilot, says they have no plans to add the show to the lineup. via The Detroit News (link)

Jeph Leob on NBC’s Heroes

Superhero Hype! has a great interview with Jeph Leob about his work on NBC’s Heroes television series. Most of the interview focuses on how Leob became attached to the project. Considering that Leob still writes comics, is a supervising producer for ABC’s hit series Lost, and a writer and supervising producer for the CW’s Smallville, how does he manage his time? The challenge is time again. I tend to write at night or I get up early, sometimes at 4:00 in the morning, and then write until I have to be on set or at the production. But this isn’t…

Afro Samurai

Samuel L. Jackson is the Afro Samurai in Spike TV’s aptly named Afro Samurai.  This will be a five episode series which puts the samurai in futuristic feudal Japan.  Isn’t that the premise of Samurai Jack?  Whatever… In this original concept idea, Afro Samurai is out to revenge the death of his father.  Looks like this will be a bloody and viloent series, so parents keep your kids away.  Don’t believe me? You can check it out the trailer for yourself over at the offical website. via Afro Samurai (link)
