If you are looking for the Major Spoilers reviews of comic books from the comic book industry, you’ve found it! The best and the worst comics are reviewed each week.

Apparently Batman is dead, but you’d never know it if you’ve been reading Detective Comics for the last year or so.  The plausible exit created by Paul Dini at the end of last issue, leads naturally to the events Denny O’Neil uses in Detective Comics #851.  Batman dead?  Unlikely, so why mourn the loss here?  Instead, O’Neil uses the time to tell a good Detective story.

Oh Dear God, Make It Stop! For the last couple of months I’ve subjected myself to one of the most bizarre team up stories ever written.  While this is supposed to be a Superman Batman team up, Superman failed to appear in the first two issues, and save for a moment of the two passing one another on the way to bring down a Lovecraftian horror, the two have been following separate storylines.  Throw in passing cameos galore, and you have the makings of a mega crossover event.  Right?

It’s man against nature, and nature looks like it is winning With the Death of the New Gods, Superman disappearing in Trinity, and Supergirl going through whatever Supergirl is going through at the moment, you’d think another book featuring Superman, Supergirl, and the New Gods would not be high on my radar.  For the last couple of weeks, I’ve been looking forward to Superman/Supergirl: Maelstrom, for the great art, the compelling story, and the fact it gives readers a break from the complicated goings on in the main Superman titles.

See what happens when you don’t read all your comics the day they are released? Hey, I know this past week saw the release of Terra #3, but I realized when I sat down to read the issue, that I hadn’t had the pleasure of reading Terra #2.  Don’t ask me how that works, but needless to say, I think I was blinded by the incredible cover, and was temporarily mind warped into believing I had enjoyed ever page.  Now that the purple haze has cleared, here’s your belated review, with the Major Spoilers tease that is becoming more and…

Things are not well in jolly ol’ England After the very excellent Crooked Man run, and the equally enjoyable In the Chapel of Moloch, it’s time to for a much larger and deep storyline that runs maybe as far back as the first issue in 1991.  One thing that is a given, with Mike Mignola back, readers are going to be in for one hell of a ride.

Or – “Setting Up The NEXT Big Crossover…”   Marvel has sent us from crossover to crossover in the last few years, from House of M to Civil War to World War Hulk to Secret Invasion, with the overall effect being that there is no longer a status quo to upend.  Since the entirety of their publishing plan seems to be “Everything you know is wrong,” this makes for a somewhat tempestuous relationship with books like this.  Now, Secret Invasion is ending, and the question we all have to ask is:  How long a timeframe have these stories all taken…

Wait, he’s supposed to be dead, right? What do you do when you have a buffer from the moment you “killed” the world’s greatest detective, and the Battle for the Cowl storyline?  Oh, and don’t forget that little thing called Final Crisis, which just so happens to feature the character that was just offed?  A trip down memory lane seems appropriate.

Horror updated for modern times Any fan of Lovecraft knows the tale of Dr. Herbert West, heck they even made a movie about it.  But what of those who weren’t around in 1921 and ’22, or who didn’t get the chance to see the brilliant Jeffrey Combs portray the Re-Animator in the three movies?  Zenescope Entertainment is taking the Lovecraft tale and bringing it to the modern day, complete with disgruntled doctors, reagents, and the dead come to life.

In which Genocide walks the Earth The DCU experienced a year without Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, and since the One Year Later return, things have not been so good.  Superman got his powers back, only to discover he is no longer the last son of Krypton thanks to the New Krypton story line.  Batman went on a spiritual journey in which he killed Batman, returned as Batman, only to “die” in the pages of the R.I.P. arc and Final Crisis (two different titles to kill Batman?  That’s one bad S.O.B.).  Now it’s Wonder Woman’s turn to experience the one…
