If you are looking for the Major Spoilers reviews of comic books from the comic book industry, you’ve found it! The best and the worst comics are reviewed each week.

In which things get wrapped up too quickly I’ve been digging the Terra mini-series from Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray.  The introduction of a new character to the DCU is a fresh one, full of interesting adventures.  Sadly, the four issue run has come to a close, and I can’t help but wonder why this wasn’t a six-issue mini-series.

Riddle me this:  When is Batman and the Outsiders not Batman and the Outsiders? The answer of course Dear Reader, is when the issue features neither Batman nor the Outsiders.  But there in lies the juicy bits of the issue.  With the “death” of Batman, there has been chaos throughout Gotham City.  And while there are those that are scrambling to fill in the void, there are few who are willing to step up with a new plan.  Someone like Batman’s daughter. Wha?

Believe or not, they did make a comic book In my youth, I spent my summers running through the fields, firing up the newly purchased Commodore 64 and trying to defeat the Wizard of Frobozz, watching The Greatest American Hero on television, and singing along to my own 45 (that’s a record for you young ‘uns) of Believe it or Not. Jump forward 27 years and now I enjoy chasing my kid down the hallway, firing up the latest installment of World of Warcraft and trying to defeat the Lich King, singing along to Believe it or Not on my…

Or – “Wasn’t There Another Reviewer At Major Spoilers?  Some Old Dude?” It’s a little known fact that the month of December contains space-time anomalies that keep you from ever completing anything on time.  Add to that a new paradigm at my office, wherein my team load has doubled and my patience halved, a tendency to want to spend time with my friends around the holidays, a scanner that works about half the time and my recent birthday, and I admit it…  I may have been neglecting my reviews.  Still, t’is nobler in the mind to beg forgiveness than it…

Wow.  I mean, really, wow. After the climactic explosion that ended last issue, and the announcement DC was canceling the Robin title in February, the fate of Tim Drake really seemed to be in question.  Fortunately, comic books run like the Saturday morning serials of yesteryear, the reports of Tim’s death have been greatly exaggerated.  That doesn’t mean Robin’s life won’t be shaken, in fact this issue might be the event that changes everything…again!

Hellbillies and Deadnecks Poor Bruce Campbell Ash.  He’s been to hell and back, been sent to witness the birth of the Marvel Zombies, and has kicked it a time or two with Xena.  After many blood filled adventures, it finally looks like our hero has found a bit of peace guarding the Necronomicon in a far off mountain watchtower.

With Great Power Comes Much Punching and Fighting With all the craziness that is going on in the DC Universe, it’s nice to know you can sit down and read a title that both follows and breaks continuity at every turn.  Superman/Batman reintroduced Supergirl to the world, but it also featured a run where the entire universe went flippy a couple of times, and no one in any of the other titles noticed. We’ve now come to a tale that has the Silver Banshee doing the thing that she does so well, which had the odd effect of Batman acquiring…

This week, on a very special Invincible… What a world of difference a couple of years make.  Back in the day, you’d open up a copy of Invincible and see bashing and smashing, intrigue, and teenager trying to live a normal life with super powers.  But our Mark Greyson has grown up, and as he comes into his own, he’s got to face a lot of adult situations.  Situations like premarital sex, a sibling that needs an intervention, and domestic violence.  Heady topics, indeed.

Across the 7th Dimension? Wow, I can’t believe it was August when I last looked upon the Buckaroo Banzai prequel from Moonstone Books.  In that time, I pretty much forget everything that happened in the first issue. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, as it gave me time to forget about the slips in continuity that comes from someone who hasn’t watched the source material 100,000 times since 1984.  Instead of a four or five issue mini-series, the prequel is wrapped up in two.  Too much?  Not enough?  Or have the halcyon days of the Hong Kong Cavaliers disappeared for…

For want of a knife the kingdom was lost Forget the time jumping, continuity screwing, reality messing tale that’s occurring in some of those other books.  If you really want your mind tweaked, readers need to check out the latest time jumping, continuity screwing, reality messing tale that’s happening in Booster Gold.  Unlike that other book that doesn’t explain anything, Booster Gold #15, kicks off a new story arc that not only doesn’t explain everything, but does it in a way that makes sense – providing you’ve read the previous 14 issues.

Or – “What The–” Stephen has been unhappy with the storytelling shown by Grant Morrison in recent issues of Batman (and, frankly, he’s not alone) and has been somewhat less-than-kind to the overall arc of Final Crisis to date.  I have to admit that the things doing on in this book have all felt epic and world-shattering, but I seriously have little to no idea what’s going on.  That’s not necessarily a bad thing, though, instead reading like a book written in a language that I’m not fluent in, implying that my tiny mind can’t process what’s going on with the…

A preview of things to come I’ve been a fan of the Savannah College of Art and Design for a number of years.  Not only does the college crank out talented artists, they also have a sequential art program that preps students for the comic book industry.  For the last four years the school has released an anthology series featuring the works of some of its top talents.  The 2008 Sequential Art Anthology arrived at my door the other day, and even though it doesn’t hit the shelves until January 2009, Major Spoilers has an early first look.
