Nightwing and Flamebird?  Ah, yes.  Now you die. Rumors of who the new Nightwing and Flamebird are have had Intarweb clacking away feverishly since their initial appearance in the Superman titles.  With Action Comics #875, those identities are revealed, and Zod’s master plot continues to unfold.

Or – “The Sensational Character Finds Of 1958…  Give Or Take Half A Century.” Namora of Atlantis.  Serious biceps on a serious superhuman.  The various Agents of Atlas each have their own special niche in life, and hers is “The Muscle.”  More reasonable than her cousin, more powerful than her disintegrated daughter, she still looks pretty awesome in black leather and a crown of shells.  Now, take this into account: She’s over 75 years old. Kinda puts Grandma in a whole new light, doesn’ t it?

In which the reviewer realizes he’s old, but doesn’t give a damn. There’s something about the sci-fi horror movies from the 1980s.  Whether it is the promise of violence and boobies, ala the R-Rated Terminator, the portrayal of future society in films like Scanners, Trancers, and Runaway, or the scare ’em tactics of Nightmare on Elm Street and Halloween, those movies shaped a lot of the creative minds working in various industries today.  Zenescope Entertainment’s Stingers debuts this week, and takes the best from the above and blends them together in a way that makes me long for the days…

Woot!  Woot?  (chirp) Rev up your excitement meter, because the biggest Bat event of the season is here, as anyone and everyone is stepping up to fill the boots of the man that saved Gotham City more times than that other guy.  Wow!  This is going to be the bestest thing in the world, right?  Yeah… about that…

Or – “The End Is Always The Beginning…  Especially In Comics.” Ever since her exit from Teen Titans several months ago, Rose Wilson (the Ravager) has fallen into the clutches of the Dark Side Club, and has been forced to fight other teenage heroes in death duels.  Aside from serving as a reminder that some of these characters (Hardrock, Sapphire, Argent, Aquagirl and others) still exist, the series has also shown Rose’s attempts to make a hero of herself, with or without her teen sidekick partners.  In this, the last issue, we see whether or not this particular tree has…

Or – “What Iron Man Really Looks Like…” I have to go on record as being very unhappy with the current state of Iron Man’s armor.  I hate the “evening gloves and hip boots” thing, and I really dislike the almost-simian shape of the butt-ugly new mask.  I guess everybody has their favorite version of various characters, but mine will always be the red-and-silver, big shouldered Centurion armor from 1987 or so.  As drawn by Mark Bright and others, it was always visually impressive, and really made the character stand out among the rest of Marvels’ finest.  Some said it…

Or – “OooOOOooo…  OOOOoooo… Wah Wah Waaah Dum De Dum Doo Wah…” The Doctor has traveled the length and breadth of the universe, from the Big Bang to the Vanishing Point, from Old New York to New New York, from London to the Bay.  It’s Doctor, yo Doctor, he’s the Doctor, go Doctor, the Daleks can go and play! (Can’t touch this!)

Marvel has announced Ultimate Wolverine Vx. Hulk #3 has sold out, prompting the publisher to send the issue back to print with an all new cover featuring the first appearance of Ultimate She-Hulk. A bountiful chest awaits Following the first three issue run of the She Buccaneer, Heidi and Will Hughes are back with a new story arc that continues the quest to find the Eyes of the Seven Seas.  Unlike the previous series, where each issue had the female pirate and her crew seeking a different eye, issue #4 kicks off a three issue arc where the She Buccaneer and her crew head to the China Sea looking for the eye of the Jade Dragon.

Out of the frying pan and straight to jail If you’re a Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan, and you’re looking for something else to read, you owe it to yourself to pick up Hexed from Boom! Studios.  Instead of hunting the undead, young Lucifer is caught in the middle of a mystical heist gone wrong, that’s landed her in one of those life and death situation those cute girls with powers are always getting themselves into.  Hexed #3 reveals the the big plot, a race to save a friend, and a view that gets Lucifer a get out of jail…

Or – “Last Survivor Of The Nerdly Trio…” Though the television series adventures of Buffy the Vampire Slayer ended some time ago, the comic book continuation of all things Buffy-like chugs along apace.  We’ve seen the lives of characters major and minor, from Slayers to exes to vampire airheads, as all the while one of my favorite characters toils in secrecy.  The only man to ever outgeek Xander Harris, he somehow managed to make both Spike and Angel feel like out-of-touch losers…   But what has the “Lost Season” of Buffy got in store for Andrew?

Let’s see that again from the other angle If you haven’t figured it out by now, I’m a sucker for good girl art, and Zenescope has got to be the company with the most curvaceous lovelies in its titles. Grimm Fairy Tales features those ladies, but for some reason, by the end of the most current issue, those girls who think they are better than us normal people always meet their grizzled end.  In the case of issue #36, the pretty girl gets killed… again.

Or – “The Brains Of The Outfit…” So, last week (theoretically) we looked at the emotional center of the founding Legionnaires, this time around we look at the woman whose strength of will in many ways defined the team.  She is one of the strongest characters in the Legion (perhaps one of the strongest in her world’s history) yet her powers are entirely subtle in nature.  Like her namesake planet, she is an axis around which the LSH rotates, as much a cornerstone of the team as Brainiac 5 or Tom Welling, and she personifies the Legion in ways that…

Or – “Seems Like Some Characters Just Can’t Hack It In The Hero Bidness…” There are those in our Major Spoilers audience who question Black Adam’s use as an anti-hero figure in JSA.  It’s a valid criticism, as the man has shown himself repeatedly to be a sadistic, brutal figure, willing to use the powers of Shazam to rip apart anyone who stands in his way.  Of course, if he were a Marvel hero, he’d probably fit right in, wouldn’t he? Something to think about…
