Warner Bros. has optioned a script by Paul Sopocy to turn the 80s animated series into a new toy line and CGI-animated feature. Property revolves around a group of humanoid cats (with feline names like Lion-O, Tygra, Panthro and Cheetara) who must flee their planet of Thundera after it’s destroyed. Once crash-landing on another planet, Third Earth, they must thwart Mumm-Ra, an evil sorcerer, bent on killing them off. Never got into the TV series myself, but I see the young interns walking around Stately Spoiler Mansion wearing T-shirts with the logo emblazend across it everyday, so there is bound…

Behold! The Mach 5! The film, Silver says, will have a “retro future” look and will center on Speed (Emile Hirsch) trying to make a name for himself in the racing world despite the efforts of corporate giants to foil his career. The film also stars Christina Ricci as girlfriend Trixie and Matthew Fox as Speed’s older brother, Racer X. I was really concerned the Wachowski’s would be taking a hatchet to the popular characters, but after looking at this beautifully crafted racer, and learning Chim Chim won’t be computer generated, my fears just took a step back. via USAToday

The latest poll has reached the minimum 100 votes, and the largest number of you agree Spider-Man 3 was an OK movie. With all the chaos going on at Stately Spoiler Manor, I finally had a chance to see S3 this past weekend. I’m going to have to agree with the majority here. It was a fun and entertaining movie (especially since I was the only one in the theatre), but nothing too spectacular that had me gushing with uber-fanboy enthusiasm like I was at the end of Spider-Man 2. I think it was the killing of Harry Osborn and…

Warner Bros. Pictures has given the green light to a live-action adaptation of the Teen Titans with Mark Verheiden hired to write the script. It is not known which heroes will be used, but Nightwing is said to be in the mix. Goldsman said the tone will be consistent with such recent Warners’ comic book fare as “Batman Begins,” “Superman Returns” and the upcoming “Watchmen.” Well WOOT! I really hope DC/Warner/Time Warner/AOL can get it together enough to create a team movie that actually works *cough*JLA-tv-pilot*cough*. via Hollywood Reporter

In the battle of the box office it wasn’t Pirates v. Ninjas this past week, but rather pirates taking on the webhead. According to box office results, Pirates did a very good job in its first six days in the box office, but Sony is claiming Disney/Buena Vista pulled out some fuzzy math to propel the pirate movie above S3. Arguably, the flap originated when Sony opened “Spider-Man 3” on a Tuesday in 18 overseas markets and later claimed a six-day opening record of $232 million in addition to other more conventional landmarks. Disney/BVI followed by heralding its “six-day” record…

USA Today has a short article about The Dark Knight saying four scenes will be shot in IMAX, including the introduction of the Joker. The director’s sequel to Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, will become the first feature film to be partly shot in the IMAX format, an expensive and cumbersome process that typically is the province of documentaries and short films. Nolan will shoot four action sequences — including the introduction of the Joker, played by Heath Ledger — on IMAX. There’s another photo of The Joker being shot with the IMAX camera, and sure enough the photo we…

Hollywood Reporter has an interesting article up today that states Joel Silver and Warner Bros. Pictures are working on a new He-Man and the Masters of the Universe movie. Justin Marks has been hired to write the movie that will simply be called Masters of the Universe. The new take on “Masters” skews more toward gritty fantasy and reimagines [Prince] Adam as a soldier who sets off to find his destiny, happening upon a magical world called Eternia. There, a being called Skeletor has raised a technological army and is bent on eradicating all traces of magic. Hey, as long…

Twentieth Century Fox and the Franklin Mint are joining forces in what I can only describe as one of the strangest marketing campaigns I’ve seen in a while.  The Franklin Mint is turning a 2005 California statehood commemorative quarter into a Silver Surfer quarter. The 40,000 coins will be distributed in cities across the United States just in time for the Memorial Day weekend.  Anyone who finds the Silver Surfer coin will be directed to the Fantastic Four website where they can regisister for a chance to win a trip to London for the June 12th premiere of the movie.…

The LA Daily News has an interview with Anthony Michael Hall where he reveals he has a role in The Dark Knight. “I signed a confidentiality agreement, and I can’t say which part I’m playing because it affects the story,” says Hall. “I can’t give away the suspense — it’s a $200 million surprise, and I don’t want to be the guy to ruin it.” “It’s really a great role. I’m in throughout the whole movie, and I’m really looking forward to working with Christian and Morgan and all these real Hollywood heavy hitters.” Cool! So who wants to speculate…

Apparently the discussion surrounding the hackability (for lack of a better word) of the Harvey Dent campaign website we posted earlier this week has been proven hackable and it looks like the Joker is behind it all. Take a peek at www.ibelieveinharveydenttoo.com/ and see what that clown prince of crime has done to the site. OR if you are daring enough, enter your email address and the code to have the image strip away pixel by pixel to reveal a shocking surprise. Or you could just take the jump and see the results for yourself. (Personally, I’d take the jump…

Here’s your uh-oh alert for today! The Hollywood Reporter is reporting Frank Miller is in negotiations with Samuel L. Jackson to play the role of the Octopus, the Spirit’s nemesis who wants to take over Central City (not to be confused with that other Central City). Miller said during an introduction of the project at the Festival de Cannes that Jackson is his first choice to play the evil genius who knows the secrets behind the Spirit. He added that he is beginning to mull different actors to play the comic book hero. Hmmm… While I like Samuel L. as…

There have been a myriad of rumors and confirmed rumors of celebrities being cast for upcoming comic related movies. Which are true and which are false? Thomas Jane said in an interview with Ain’t It Cool News that he’s dropped out of the sequel to The Punisher, while David Boreanaz is reported to have auditioned for Namor in Marvel’s Sub-Mariner movie. The Punisher sequel is said to be pretty dark and gritty, which could be a good thing compared to how “tame”*snicker*the first movie was. As far as Angel cast as Namor? I think he’s just a bit bulky for…
