IESB has an interesting article about the state of the Justice League movie. It appears as though the first draft of the script has been turned in – something we’ve already reported here – and Warner Bros. is hoping the film will be a launching point for The Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, and The Flash, all of which have been floundering in production hell as stand alone movies. When do the powers-that-be want to start production on Justice League? Apparently, as soon as the first quarter of 2008, that’s right, WB sources have informed the IESB that execs behind the…

The Hollywood Reporter is stating Scarlett Johansson will be playing the part of Silk N. Floss in the upcoming Spirit movie written and directed by Frank Miller. For “Spirit,” Miller’s adaptation of the classic Eisner film noir comic strip series, Johansson is in final negotiations to play a dangerous beauty named Silk N. Floss. Eisner’s strip was known for its women with dangerous curves, and Miller is intent on keeping that tradition. Floss is a sexy and intelligent secretary with a vindictive instinct that makes her the perfect accomplice to the Octopus (Samuel L. Jackson), an evil mastermind. This news…

Man, I hate it when really clean and clear images are posted throughout the Interwebs and suddenly they have to be taken down because they aren’t authorized. If 20 or so photos have already been leaked online and nearly every (and I mean every) website is linking to them, then what’s the big deal? But to avoid the dreaded C&D letter, I’m taking down the photos. You can probably still find them out there somewhere, just not here. I know, I know…what a bummer. Kung Fu Rodeo has a slew of photos from the Dark Knight movie. Take the…

So who would you rather see; Djimon Hounsou (left) or Chiwetel Ejiofor (right)? via Reelz Channel

Quint over at Ain’t It Cool News interviewed Peter Segal on the Get Smart movie, but was smart enough to ask if he was still working on Shazam. Absolutely. We’re working on the script right now and John August is working on it and I have to say I’m really excited about this. This is one of my favorite comic books and I had to remind myself when I researched again, once I signed on, that it was the most popular comic in the world in 1939 and because of a lot of legal problems it was shelved away and…

Wizard Universe has the transcript of The Dark Knight Panel that featured Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Aaron Eckhart, and director Christopher Nolan. This is a question for both Mr. Bale and the writers: Will you be playing up more of the “Dark Knight Detective”/criminologist angle of Batman this time? [Audience applauds] CHRISTOPHER NOLAN: The short answer is “Yes.” The long answer is that “Batman Begins” was an origin story and the important thing was to move the story forward. In this movie, the detective stuff will help move the story along. I can not wait for this movie to come…

Millennium Films has acquired the rights to Robert E. Howard’s Conan the Barbarian series. [Paradox Entertainment prexy-CEO Fredrik] Malmberg declined to renew another option with Warners when the rights lapsed in spring. He was frustrated that seven years’ worth of development at WB had not yielded a production start on the franchise that launched the film career of Arnold Schwarzenegger in its first bigscreen go-round. The company will either fully produce the flik or partner with its distributor. Millennium is ditching everything previously worked on by Warner Bros., including the Robert Rodriquez stuff, and start from scratch hoping to make…

We all know Hulk likes to smash, but you may not have caught the little tid-bit in the Marvel second-quarter earnings report that listed Hulk Smash as the next direct-to-DVD animated project from the company. Doctor Strange is scheduled for an August 14, 2007 release, while Teen Avengers (I’m lost on that one too) is targeted for July 2008.  Hulk Smash should arrive in October 2008.  This seems a bit odd because one would think Marvel would want to capitalize on the Hulk success as soon as possible following the Incredible Hulk movie. via Marvel

Love him or hate him, McG has taking his slick MTV style approach to directing and produced enough eye candy to keep one entertained for a few hours. Next up for McG is the Oni Press adaptation of Maintenance for Warner Bros. Joe Ballarini is adapting the project, which follows the exploits of two janitors who work at Terrormax Inc., the world’s leading manufacturer and supplier of weapons and doomsday devices to supervillains. As comicbook’s conceit goes, if they’re not too busy cleaning up toxic spills and performing menial repairs on time machines, they just might save the world. I…
