Deadline Hollywood is often dead on when posting rumors, so we’re going to believe the crew over there this time with their announcement that 30-year-old actor Jason Momoa has been cast as Conan in the Lionsgate Millenium Films latest adaptation of the Robert E. Howard’s classic character. Sources said that director Marcus Nispel was sold on Momoa, and won over the filmmakers by shooting a few trial scenes that allowed Momoa to wield a sword and behave very Schwarzenegger-like. This keeps the film on course for a March 15 production start in Bulgaria Sounds good to me. Let’s get this…
An odd surprise hit earlier this year was Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which retells the Jane Austen story with the undead thrown in for good measure. Lionsgate films will finance and distribute the film, but it’s Natalie Portman who is producing and starring. Portman will play feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet, who is distracted from her quest to eradicate the zombie menace by the arrival of the arrogant Mr. Darcy. As long as the movie isn’t as dog slow as the last Pride and Prejudice I was forced to watch a few years ago, I think it might actually work.…
Pencil in April 16, 2010 as a day you’re going to be busy. That’s the date Lionsgate is planning on releasing Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass movie adaptation. Lionsgate acquired North American distrib rights to “Kick-Ass” shortly after Comic-Con. Pic, starring Nicolas Cage and Aaron Johnson, is based on the bestselling comic by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. Storyline revolves around a young boy who inspires a subculture of wannabe superheroes who have no powers. I’m sure after the government takes all my money on the 15th, I’ll be ready to kick some ass of my own, so this looks like…
Marvel has sent out a press release detailing the upcoming release of the Wolverine and the X-Men Heroes Return Trilogy DVD, scheduled to arrive on April 21, 2009. Press release follows:
As cool as some of the scenes from the new Punisher movie looked, the movie flopped at the box office this past weekend, bringing in an estimated $4 million. To twist the knife even deeper, this opening was even worse than Howard the Duck – another Marvel property that has become a joke of the movie industry. For those worried that this is a death knell for Marvel, keep in mind this movie is not a Marvel Studios flick, but rather release by Lionsgate, who probably shot themselves in the foot by releasing Transporter 3 last weekend. Anyone see this?…
