This past weekend, Andrew Stanton, the man behind many of the best animated movies of the last 15 years, said the upcoming John Carter of Mars movie will not be a Pixar movie, but will be firmly under the Disney banner.  Stanton also dismissed rumors that the film would be entirely 3D in nature. Studios sent us a quick note to let us know that its Disney/Pixar books (The Incredibles: Family Matters, Cars: The Rookie  and The Muppet Show) will all feature a $2.99 price tag when they ship in March.  While the price may seem a tad high for a kid’s comic, remember the “standard” price for comics is now firmly in the $3.99 realm, with many smaller publishers opting to make $3.50 their starting point for issues. via Boom! Medicom has designed the Disney VCD line with the serious Disney collector in mind, realizing each character accurately and faithfully. Olivia Wilde and Beau Garrett are the first actors to sign to star in the update/remake/reimagining of Walt Disney’s Tron 2.0 movie. The new movie is acting as a “next chapter.” Plot details are being guarded closely, but Wilde will play a worker in the virtual world who tries to help fight Master Control Program, the villainous intelligence protocol that was the nemesis in the original film. Garrett will play a siren in the virtual world. The main lead actor has not been cast, although it is surprising that Jeff Bridges isn’t involved in some way. via THR

Disney has hired Colin Trevorrow to write the adaptation of Scott Christian Sava’s Pet Robots as a major motion picture for the company. A high-tech comedy set in the present, “Pet Robots” revolves around futuristic robots that fall into the hands of the least likely group of people. No release date yet. via Hollywood Reporter

Disney has announced it has acquired the rights to the graphic novel Monster Attack Network by Mark Bernardin and Adam Freeman.  MAN takes place on a Pacific island populated by giant monsters and the team of adventurers that deal with them. The film will be produced by Jason Netter, who produced this summer’s Wanted. via THR

Disney has picked up the rights to the Transplants for an upcoming gig for Sam Raimi. The parties are keeping a tight lid on the high-concept project, though it is described as a four-quadrant ensemble superhero story with a comedic bent. Disney has renewed its first look pact with Stan Lee’s POW Entertainment.  This will be a two year deal that gives the House of Mouse the option of taking POW’s content and spinning it into television, publishing, games, and online or mobile content. The first project spinning out of this deal is Lee’s Time Jumper, a digital comic book series that Disney will distribute across various media (web and mobile most likely). Boom! Studios has just announced a new partnership with Disney/Pixar to produce a series of comics based on some favorite Pixar titles and characters. Toy Story, Finding Nemo and Wall*E are all on the list, but probably the most exciting is the announcement that Mark Waid will be writing The Incredibles title for the company that will feature cover art by Darwyn Cooke. “Today, American comic books are aimed primarily at an older readership. The Walt Disney Studios has signed a multi-year deal with Ahmet Zappa, Harris Katleman and Christian Beranek to oversee the newly christened Kingdom Comics, an innovative new venture of developing graphic novels to create new film projects for the Studio as well as re-imagining and rejuvenating motion pictures from the Disney live-action Vault, it was announced today by Oren Aviv, president, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Production.
