The WB has confirmed that Heath Ledger will be playing the role of The Joker in the next Batman film. The company also reports that the title of the next bat-flick will be The Dark Knight. Christian Bale will reprise his role as Batman, with Christopher Nolan directing. The film is expected to begin shooting in early 2007. Complete press release follows

The new animated series based on DC’s Legion of Super Heroes hasn’t even aired, but the Superman Homepage has an episode guide, complete with episode titles and a summary of each show. If this is indeed the real deal, fans of this show may be in for a treat. Okay, so Aquaman has been around for quite some time – you know, he can talk to fishes and stuff, and was in that classic cartoon show from the 70s and 80s. Those crazy kids over at the Legions of Gotham Forum have posted some images for the next season of The Batman series currently running on Kids WB. But be prepared for a major shock. Remember The Batman series is supposed to chronicle the early years of Batman and the origins (albeit skewed) of the bat rogue gallery. The torpeadoed Aquaman series may not be coming to a channel near you (ever), but kudos to the WB who was wise enough to try and recoup their losses on the pilot by offering the show for download via the iTunes music store.  This 41 minute episode can be purchase for a mere $1.99. If sales of this pilot go over well, could this be the message to Warner Bros. to bring the show back into production for television audiences?  Or could this merely be an attempt for the studios to make money off of something they have already written…

Warner Bros. Pictures has hired Adam Turner to write the screenplay for DC Comics Doom Patrol. Warner Bros. will be making the announcement this week at the San Diego Comic Con. Remnicent of the X-Men and teamed like the Justice League, The Doom Patrol uses their freakish abilities to stop evil doers. The film will be produced by Akiva Goldsman via Weed Road Pictures. Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Guillermo del Toro is teaming up with Don Murphy’s Angry Films to bring the DC Comics superhero “Deadman” to life. The deal is still in negotiations and the search for a writer is underway. Deadman is the ghost of Boston Brand, a circus performer who was murdered during one of his performances.
