Browsing: Cthulhu

Colour Out of Space Updated Believe it or not, I’m not a huge horror fan.  Sure I like the occasional tale told to terrorize tikes, but most of the horror comics I’ve seen over the last 15 years seem to revel in the gore and violence associated with Halloween and Friday the 13th, but kicked up a notch for shock value alone.  I discovered the brilliance of H.P. Lovecraft about 8 years ago and have been hooked on his tales ever since. When Boom! Studios unveiled its Cthulhu line I snagged as many issues of the various titles as I…

Boom! Studios is taking the ballerina cover from Fall of Cthulhu #9, and super-sizing it to poster form, so you can hang it on the wall of your dorm or office. “In the world created by H.P. Lovecraft, there are things that happen on a huge scale, and events so insignificant they barely happen at all. Yet he managed to imbue every incident great or small with a creepy, disturbing strangeness,” said poster and FALL OF CTHULHU artist Patrick McEvoy.  “This picture was a good chance for me to try to visually capture that mood.” Only 1,000 copies are being…

I’ve been wondering when Boom! Studios would tackle more Lovecraft titles and bring more creatures from the Cthulhu mythos to print.  The answer is December, when H.P. Lovecraft’s prose poem, Nyarlathotep is brought to life in a 32-page hard cover tome, illustrated by Chuck BB. “I was absolutely excited to take on a Lovecraft project,” said illustrator extraordinaire Chuck BB.  “What appeals to me so much about Lovecraft’s writing is that he is able to express a level of scariness that is less about spooking you, and more about making you feel small and insignificant in an unexplored world.  Lovecraft…

I’ve listened to the podcasts and read the reviews. Despite all that, I really did not think that BOOM! had anything for me as a comic reader. Well tonight, while I was getting caught up on listening to the podcasts, I heard…

I’m gonna file this in the WTF category. Yes, it is an actual poster that you can pick up this week from Boom! Studios. It could be worse, it could be this. And at least it’s not this. All joking aside, I think this is a fun poster (as is anything Cthulhu related), and according to Boom! Studios, it selling quite well. via Boom! Studios
