I’ve mentioned before that there are all kinds of Batman fans. There are some who like the Christopher Nolan movies while there are others who prefer Adam West’s Caped Crusader of the 1960s. That latter group tends to avoid DC’s New 52 because, as one friend put it, the books are “too gritty.” They point to the early issue of Catwoman in which Batman and she “got it on” while talking on a rooftop. “Batman would never do that!” that friend says! Some folks want to read books to get away from reality, after all! But is that what comics…

With the film debut of Guardians of the Galaxy a little over a month away, Marvel Entertainment is doing something to promote the movie that caught my attention. The variant covers of Marvel comics coming out in July will be focused on that group and its members.
Okay, who’s your favorite comics hero? Does he or she have super-powers or not? Then look over the other characters you like. Do they follow the same pattern? Because comics can make special effects happen rather inexpensively, it seems we’ll always have most of the books feature people with powers. But more and more comics are starring those who have no unusual talents or at least who don’t wear costumes. Me, I prefer non-powered people to those with abilities far beyond those of mortal men. There are several reasons for that.
It didn’t get nearly as much fanfare as it deserved, but this past weekend, X-Men: Days of Future Past became the highest-grossing franchise film around the world!
Last week, Warner Bros. announced the final title for what had previous been called “Batman vs. Superman.” Granted, they kept that as part of the movie’s full name, but they did add another phrase to it: “Dawn of Justice.”
As reported by site head honcho Stephen Schleicher recently, Zack Snyder has been chosen to direct a Justice League movie, which will follow the unofficially named movie Batman vs. Superman.
The comics convention season is now in full swing, and I had the opportunity to attend a relatively new “con” on the other side of the country from Wondercon (now called the “real” Comic-Con by some folks I know).
Okay, you walk into a store and are looking for a few specific comics. How do you find them?
In recent years, observers of the movie industry have been worrying out loud about “superhero fatigue.” In other words, will movie-goers get tired of seeing movies with comic-book superheroes in them? I think this might better be turned into “comics-related movie fatigue.” Will people who go to the theater wear out when it comes to comics turned into big-screen films in 2014? That’s why I like to think of this column as: “Comics-Related Movie Fatigue: The 2014 Edition.”
Nobody is happier than I am that more comics-related properties are hitting the big screen. As I’ve said before, each comic can be considered as a possible movie, sometimes even showing how it could look in the movies. Marvel Studios’ Phase II is going to be very interesting to watch for many reasons, and I’ll outline them below.
In the last several years, I’ve noticed a trend that is starting to wear on me. It’s the practice of advertising movies during the commercials of other products.
I’ve been following with interest the Internet discussions ever since word came out last week that Marvel was putting Captain America 3 up against Batman vs. Superman in movie theaters on May 6, 2016. Even though this is still over two years away, the battle lines have been drawn. Most of the people discussing it felt that Warner Bros/DC was at fault because Marvel had previously claimed that weekend even though they never said just what film would be released then. WB/DC had moved the Man of Steel sequel from July 17, 2015, to that date several months ago. Ever…
Even though this website is called MajorSpoilers.com, I still don’t like it when serious plot points in a story I’m looking forward to reading are given away. And I steer clear of ruining a story for anyone else as a result.
Several months ago, I discussed the debut of Batman Eternal, which will begin next month, in April. Now comes word that DC will also have two other weeklies hitting the stores by October. Not only that, September will be another special month, with peeks into possible futures of many DC characters. We’ll see what could be happening to them five years from now.
