Last Wednesday, the final one of May, was the day when DC’s Convergence event came to a close. The DC Universe in comics is now a different one, and I thought I’d share my opinions on how things will go from here.

As someone who has studied writing, I know that each tale should have a beginning, a middle and an end. There’s one place we’re all familiar with where this doesn’t hold true much of the time – in comics!
I have to admit that I had a tough time coming up with this column because my attention keeps turning to the season finale of The Flash tomorrow night on The CW. Can’t wait!
As one media news outlet put it, comics are “conquering” both television and movies.
Last time, I talked about Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) being held on Saturday, May 2. Every store seems to have their own way of celebrating this event, and that was particularly clear to me this year. From my own experience visiting several stores and from what friends on the Internet have said as well, this year’s event apparently was even bigger than last year, likely the biggest ever! We might get some statistics about that in the near future, but we’ll see!
Man, it’s tough attending a big convention when you’re sick as a dog! But the motto for Megacon 2015 was “It’s Fun Time!” and so I soldiered through this high-octane event and still enjoyed what I could!
As much as I rail against “event” comics, there are a few that come along that I actually do enjoy, as hard as it is to believe it! And those mostly have been when Star Trek has encountered other sci-fi franchises!
It’s been a busy couple of months, so I haven’t had the chance to write about something that caught my attention a while back … the fact that IDW Publishing’s Orphan Black #1 was the highest-ordered comic in February of this year. This reveals what very well may be a serious change in the industry, one that may influence things for a long time to come. WHAT IS ORPHAN BLACK? Before I start talking about Loot Crate, it’s important to know just what Orphan Black is. Here’s the basic premised as described by imdb.com: “A streetwise hustler is pulled into…
DC Comics has told everyone that their comics universe would be a very different one after the “Convergence” event ended in May. This past week, we discovered just how true those words were when illustrations of the new costumes for Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman were revealed. As always, reaction to these changes was mixed, reminding me very much of the time before the New 52 hit stores.
Comic-cons and other comic-related conventions can make a LOT of money! Fact is, there’s a convention with comics creators being held nearly every weekend each year now. The rub is, both creators and fans have to travel in order to make a convention happen. I’ve travelled hundreds of miles to attend the San Diego Comic-Con. Writers, artists and other creators go all over the U.S. and even to other countries to interact with fans. Oh, and sometimes they even make money! However, things are always changing, and this past Saturday, I attended a convention unlike any other I’ve been to.…
While Leonard Nimoy will always be remembered for his portrayal as Mr. Spock in Star Trek, what you may not have known is that he also created comics for a few years. And they were good ones, too!
Social media is a great way to get people talking about a project you’re working on. Last week, we saw a perfect example of this when Zack Snyder released a photo of Jason Momoa as Aquaman as he’s likely to appear in the upcoming Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice feature film. I have to say that it’s great to see the King of the Seas get an upgrade. I’m looking forward to the film for several reasons, but now seeing Aquaman has been added to my high expectations. To my recollection, this will be the first time this hero…
I’m off to a great start to 2015 regarding my comics convention attendance!
A couple of weeks back, I talked about the struggles retailers were having when ordering the books they would be selling. That included DC’s Convergence, two months in which titles would appear that might exist only during that time. Well, as reported right here at MajorSpoilers.com, DC announced on Friday how they’re going to proceed after the Convergence event.
