Last Wednesday, the final one of May, was the day when DC’s Convergence event came to a close. The DC Universe in comics is now a different one, and I thought I’d share my opinions on how things will go from here.

One of the interesting developments in comics the last few years is what I like to call “The Rise of the Archers.” In both Marvel and DC, the hero with the bow and arrows has done well in his monthly title.

As someone who has studied writing, I know that each tale should have a beginning, a middle and an end. There’s one place we’re all familiar with where this doesn’t hold true much of the time – in comics!

Brett Uren is back, and this is our chance to support his Torsobear series of books! Remember the old saying: “It’s the job of each generation to make the one that came before them appear to be sane.” That’s what’s going on in this title, which first came to my attention on Thrillbent.com, a website that has quite a number of excellent webcomics on it! This one is a favorite! I’m glad IDW is bringing a lot of their excellent product to the local comics shop!

I have to admit that I had a tough time coming up with this column because my attention keeps turning to the season finale of The Flash tomorrow night on The CW. Can’t wait!

This week’s episode features the return of Alex Lobato, one of the creators of Max Hunter: Snow Fall, now from Think Alike Productions (which includes Dark Side Global).

Why is it that some of the best comics are written by writers of horror? This week, a new book debuted, and it’s pretty scary on many levels, but I’ve come to expect that from Cullen Bunn.

As one media news outlet put it, comics are “conquering” both television and movies.

Some characters work no matter what universe he or she is in. For instance, Spider-Man dealt with other incarnations of himself in the Spider-Verse saga. Honestly, I couldn’t begin to count all of them! My favorite hero is also one that thrives in many different settings. The Batman, this version from Earth One, has returned in the second volume of that series, and it’s an excellent sequel.

Last time, I talked about Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) being held on Saturday, May 2. Every store seems to have their own way of celebrating this event, and that was particularly clear to me this year. From my own experience visiting several stores and from what friends on the Internet have said as well, this year’s event apparently was even bigger than last year, likely the biggest ever! We might get some statistics about that in the near future, but we’ll see!

Salvagers is a high-octane blue-collar sci-fi comic coming from creators Bob Salley and George Acevedo. This week during my landmark 175th episode, I chat with both of them about their successful series, with the fourth issue of the Salvagers: Abandoned Cargo miniseries coming out soon. We discuss the book’s beginnings, characters and artwork, as well as their Kickstarter campaign, which will be wrapping up soon.
