Previously in X-Men Red: Storm and Magneto have recreated the Brotherhood to keep peace in Arakko. However, they were unprepared for the attack by Uranos. With everyone scattered, the mutants of Arakko try to defend their planet from attacks on multiple fronts. On top of that, Uranos has torn out Magento’s heart!
TO THE VERY END
X-Men Red #6 starts from the perspective of Craig Marshall of NASA. He is studying Planet Arakko on behalf of humans. What he sees is friendship and peace from a supposedly dangerous place. Now he is trying to protect some of the citizens of Arakko from the attack. As he is about to sacrifice himself, he is saved by Storm. Storm uses Lactuca the Knower to get information on the Brotherhood and the Great Ring. What comes next is an excellent montage of how everyone is faring.
Magneto is dying after he lost his heart, but he continues to fight till his last breath. As the mutants of Arakko and the Brotherhood gather around Magneto. Storm uses his lightning to empower Magneto and give him part of her life force. This allows them both to destroy Uranos’ monster and take a breather.
NEAT IDEAS
I am on the fence about the A.X.E. event. I’m not reading the Avengers and Fantastic Four and only picked up a few issues of the tie-in comics. I hesitantly picked this issue up. I enjoyed the formation of the Brotherhood and seeing the character development of Storm and Magneto. Watching Storm summon lightning to give Magneto life was breathtaking. It put me on the edge of my seat. I am impressed that it grabbed my attention since I am not invested in the plotline.
Additionally, adding Craig Marshall was a nice touch. He represents the people of Earth and listening to his commentary provided great insight into the culture of Arakko. On top of the excellent writing, the art was solid, and I enjoyed the color palette of Arakko and how it contrasts with the palette of Krakoa. Great work by the creative team here.
BOTTOM LINE: GREAT MOMENTS
X-Men Red #6 is filled with great moments that shine a light on old and new characters. I want to understand the Arakko culture more and the mutants that form the Arakko government. Watching Storm and Magneto explores this new society has been enjoyable to read. 4 out of 5 stars for X-Men Red #6. This is a solid read, even if you are not following the A.X.E. Judgement Day event.
