Berlanti to Bring Wonder Girl to the CW
The Arrowverse is changing and growing and bringing an increasingly diverse lineup to the small screen. Greg Berlanti announced via Deadline this week that Joelle Jones’ latinx Wonder Girl, Yara Flor, is in development at the CW.
The network is developing Wonder Girl, a drama series based on the DC characters created by Joëlle Jones. It hails from Queen of the South executive producer/co-showrunner Dailyn Rodriguez and Berlanti Productions.
… Deadline reports.
Yara Flor is brand new to the DC Comics Universe having been just introduced to readers all over the world with Future State right around the corner. If you aren’t familiar with Future State you have to scroll back through some of the recent Major Spoilers Podcast episodes where Stephen, Matthew, Rodrigo, and I all shared our initial reactions to the announcement and discussed what we are hoping to see. Flor will lead the Future State: Wonder Woman series.
Dailyn Rodriguez is slated to be the showrunner …
Rodriguez has been co-running USA’s Queen of the South for the past two seasons as part of an overall deal with series producer Touchstone TV. While her studio pact ended last month, she has made a new deal to continue co-running the show — whose production was disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic — through the end of Season 5. Filming on the fifth season recently resumed in New Orleans.
If anyone is caught up on the Arrowverse I would love to hear your thoughts on Wonder Girl joining the roster down in the comments of this post!
Darkwing Duck is Finally Back!
I don’t know about you, Spoilerite, but the DuckTales reboot is one of my favourite things Disney has put out in years. It consistently brings me so much joy, the writing is sharp, the casting is out of this world, and the references are just exceptional! From the moment Darkwing Duck was introduced in-universe two seasons ago I have been dying for the duck superhero spinoff we all deserve and this week Variety broke the new that Disney+ is going to give me what I need!
There are not a ton of details yet known, but Variety has reported:
A “Darkwing Duck” reboot is in early development at Disney Plus, Varietyhas learned from sources.
No writer is currently attached to the project, but sources say it will be executive produced by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, and Alex McAtee of Point Grey Pictures. McAtee will oversee the project for the company.
Rogan and Goldberg are also the masterminds behind the Invincible animated show coming to Amazon Prime (which I wrote about for Did You Hear? when the trailer dropped earlier this year), so they bring not only geek cred, but animated cred to Darkwing Duck.
