    Avengers #32 Review

Matthew PetersonBy Matthew PetersonNovember 11, 20253 Mins Read

Tired of conquering, the time-traveling Kang has found a whole new obsession: the creation of his own universe! Of course, that’ll mean destroying the current one. Your Major Spoilers review of Avengers #32 from Marvel Comics awaits!

    Avengers 32 CoverAVENGERS #32

    Writer: Jed McKay

    Colorist: Federico Blee
    Letterer: VC’s Cory Petit
    Editor: Wil Moss
    Publisher: Marvel Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
    Release Date: November 5, 2025

Previously in Avenger: The curtain has been pulled back, and Kang’s triumph seems inevitable with the grail in his hands. The Avengers are outnumbered, but when they assemble, ANYTHING is possible! PLUS: A fallen Avenger returns! But is he friend or foe?

    HYPERION’S BACK

As Avengers #32 opens, we see Marvel’s most cosmically aware individuals, including Galactus, the Phoenix, Clea, and Doctor Strange, feeling the first terrible shuddering of what is to come —the death of the Marvel Universe. While a group of mysterious players moves in the shadows, the Avengers are busy dealing with an army of undead superhumans at the behest of Kang himself. Thanks to The Grail, a mystical flaw in the universe itself, he has sufficient power to keep the likes of Captain Marvel, the synthezoid Vision, and even The Scarlet Witch herself busy. Even the planet-smashing power of Hyperion, the closest thing to Superman himself, stands no chance against the newly empowered Conqueror. All seems lost, until they combine their skills into one explosive combination of magic, science, alien energies, and more… and even that isn’t enough! Fortunately, there’s one Avenger still unaccounted for, and thanks to the return of some old friends, The Impossible City has come to save the day!

THE TRUTH ABOUT THE IMPOSSIBLE CITY REVEALED

With the big 800th issue just around the corner, it’s clear that McKay is ready to pull out all the stops, and this issue is all the buildup. My favorite parts of the issue are the ones that remind us of what The Avengers stand for, such as the sequences where Cyclops and his X-Men team work to handle Avenger menaces while the team is off-planet. It’s a fun moment not just to see Cyclops, Juggernaut, and company trying to wrap their minds around Avengers-level threats, but to show the X-Men once again as a superhero team. The shadowy shenanigans of the Twilight Court feel a little bit anticlimactic to me, especially given the explicit reminder that Kang is Myrddin, the team’s architect. Even so, seeing The Impossible City restored to full power and full memory is an impressive moment, artistically and story-wise. Karami’s art is excellent throughout the issue, with special kudos due to the team effort that wipes out the entire army of zombies with a synthesis of all the heroes’ powers. The one real disappointment for me is that the army of the dead could be much more distinct, given the presence of so many dead Avengers and other heroes in the ranks.

BOTTOM LINE: THE END IS NEAR

Admittedly, I’ve been a bit distracted by all the other cataclysmic events across the Marvel Universe, as seen in One World Under Doom, Age of Revelation, the various Godzilla attacks et al, but Avengers #32 brings us back to the secrets of Camelot, Kang becoming his own worst enemy, and the battle to save all that is, earning 4 out of 5 stars overall. I hope that the upcoming Avengers #800 is as epic as it should be, but this issue serves as a very effective build to that milestone.

    The Archetypes Return

The return of the Twilight Court has changed the game once again, but the stakes are still apocalyptically high. The art and story are up to the task, and there's even a cool X-Men appearance that I'm super-happy about.

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture! And a nice red uniform.
