Marshall Moo Montana is back to save the Nacelleverse as Oni Press announces the latest in the animated television series line-up.
Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa is written by Matt Hotson with art by Juan Gedeon.
Before he takes the badge, ride into the lawless border town of Moo Mesa as we meet Marshal Moo Montana in his earliest adventure! In a time gripped by fear and uncertainty, disorder pervades the desert, and its citizens have started to go missing—including Moo’s former mentor, the respected Sheriff Marey Quine. With shadows growing across the mesa, Moo must navigate old grudges, new alliances, and a conspiracy that reaches deep into the heart of the mesa’s past.
And if you are wondering if Dakota Dude, Cowlorado Kid, and Cowlamity Kate will make appearances, don’t worry, the creative team looks to keep the saga of justice, mystery, and redemption from the Saturday morning animated series alive in this series.
“Giddy-up for a classic wild west tail – er, I mean TALE – set in the earliest days of the Nacelleverse,” said writer Matt Hotson in a press release from Oni Press. “We’re digging deep into the history of Marshal Moo Montana, and the case which first brings him to CowTown. Hold on to your hats as Moo meets new allies Dakota Dude, Cowlorado Kid, and Cowlamity Kate, and learn the secret history behind the formation of the C.O.W.-Boys… and how their first anthropomorphic adversary is connected to the COWmet which created Moo Mesa!”
“I loved Moo Mesa as a kid—Dakota Dude was my favorite!” said artist Juan Gedeon in the same press release. “The heroes looked badass but still kind, which I found awesome. I wanted to be like them when I grew up. Now that I’m 38, it’s wild realizing the real villains were the sheriff and the mayor, the people who should actually protect the citizens. Thank God that only happens in cartoons, right? Bringing these characters to life has been the most fun I’ve had in years. Matt’s scripts are amazing, I laughed out loud several times while reading them. Getting the faces right nearly broke me—I spent full days stuck on just one, but now I finally got the hang of it…I think! I’m aiming to create a book that hits for both lifelong fans and kids who’ve never heard of Moo Mesa—something that captures the heart of the original but levels it up for a new generation.”
Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa #1 is scheduled to arrive on September 17, 2025.
