Rings of Power at the Creative Arts Emmys – Let’s Get Nerdy!

Ashley Victoria RobinsonBy Ashley Victoria RobinsonJanuary 10, 20247 Mins Read

Amazon Studios The Rings of Power is here. The Second season is on its way. We want all Spoilerites to have the best viewing experience possible and have the widest knowledge base about the Second Age of Middle-Earth. This is a weekly Let’s Get Nerdy article series highlighting a different piece of Tolkien I think you need to know about!

Yesterday was the Golden Globes, the first show that kicks off the awards season here in Los Angeles, California. Genre had an okay showing: Barbie, The Boy and the Heron being the leaders among genre award winners. Per usual, genre showed out a little more well at the Creative Arts Emmys (yes, there are two Emmys, one of the fun-sexy-people and one for the below-the-line people). In addition to the Golden Globes this past week the Creative Arts Emmys.

The Rings of Power had a predictably small presence but, definitely some fun stuff worth celebrating!

Actor Cynthia Addai-Robinson, who plays Queen Míriel, present Emmy for Outstanding Casting for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie:

… and left the Creative Arts Emmys ceremony with no wins under its belt.

One of the winners was Barrie Gower who led the prosthetics team for HBO’s The Last of Us. Even if you haven’t watched the show if you’re familiar with the look of The Clickers (fun fact: a top cosplay at comic conventions in 2023), you know Gower and his team create nothing short of top tier works.

Early last year the rumours had begun swirling around Gower’s potential involvement, including the Tweet from Rings of Power Updates you can see quote Tweeted above, with IMDB confirming this detail in the Upcoming Tab or his work:

Orcs and Goblins were pretty prominent throughout the first season of The Rings of Power and with such an incredible team (aside from The Last of Us they also have Chernobyl at their backs), it begs the question of what new or more expansive creatures we might have ahead of us in The Rings of Power season two. In the great tradition of Star Trek creatures also have the possibility of changing and evolving (here’s looking at you, The Kinglons from Star Trek!), so the most likely answer is bigger and scarier orcs than we’re used to seeing. If these new team members only herald an evolution I’m certainly looking forward to seeing it!
