    Writer: Scott Bryan Wilson
    Artist: Max Alan Fuchs
    Publisher: IDW Publishing
    Cover Price: $3.99
    Release Date: September 13, 2023
The city of Colonia is suffering from total economic collapse, but worse than the unemployment and urban decay is the skyrocketing homicide rate. Most of the few cops left on the force think it’s just another symptom of the city’s decline, but one detective has a darker theory…that the most depraved killers in the country have all moved here to take advantage of the chaos. As he and his new partner dig deeper into their rapidly growing list of open cases, they’ll find themselves in the crosshairs of a growing group of maniacs who realize that the best way to stay ahead of the cops in a city full of killers…is to kill more. Nothing can prepare you for Lady Facesmasher, The Sufferer, The Obituary Machine-and worse. Lock your doors and journey into the mouth of madness in a new series from writer Scott Bryan Wilson (TRVE KVLT, Pennyworth) and artist Max Alan Fuchs (Altered Carbon: One Life One Death, Halcyon Days).

    DISCUSSION

    KNIGHTS OF THE DINNER TABLE
    Writer/Artist: Jolly R. Blackburn
    Publisher: Kenzer and Company
    Cover Price: $12.99
It primarily focuses on a group of role playing gamers and their actions at the gaming table, which often result in unfortunate, but humorous consequences in the game. The name is a parody of King Arthur’s Round Table reinforced by the truism that roleplaying aficionados often end up sitting round their host’s dinner table as it is the only one large enough to accommodate the party (4 to 8 people typically).

Yay! I remember Matthew making several KoDT references during the earlier episodes of Critical Hit. Nice seeing them getting some love.

Okay, I think I spoke too soon. I was thrilled to see the Knights get reviewed, and I commented before posting. I hate to say it, but you did the Knights dirty. First, the series is ongoing and still being published at something around issue 310 as of Jan 2024. That’s something easy enough to check and a tad disappointing no one did any homework. The confusion around basic aspects of the series and Kenzer Co was unfortunate.

I’ll cede all the complaints. The initial issues were rough, the concerns of adding “a girl” to the group is painfully dated, they rely on joke physicality too much, and so forth. That said, once the series gets its sea legs, it’s great. I suggest / ask that you check out the Bag Wars Saga for a stand alone TBP example of where the series hits its stride. The strength is that with the same writing crew, you get regular callbacks while still meeting characters who stick around forever which were mentioned dozens of issues perviously. It’s tight with a cohesive story-line. Not everything is what gaming was like for dorks in the early 90s.
