    Did You Hear

Godzilla Poised for End of 2023 Domination – Did You Hear? week of Friday, August 25th, 2023

Ashley Victoria RobinsonBy Ashley Victoria RobinsonAugust 25, 20234 Mins Read

Did You Hear? is a weekly examination of headlines in the entertainment industry and a take on what they could mean for the future of the industry and (often), the little geeky bubble that we occupy!

Godzilla Minus One gets a Release Date

“What you’re actually writing about movies again, Ashley?!”

That’s right, faithful Spoilterite, looking at the slate of many mass media companies we’re about to enter an influx of imported movies and television shows not unlike the pandemic bubble which brought shows like Lupin and Squid Game to the forefront of not only Netflix, but public consciousness at the height of the 2020 lockdown.

What’s great about this, from a journalistic perspective, is foreign films do not fall under the SAG-AFTRA umbrella. Thus, do not fall into the category of “Struck Work”. Thus, can be discussed publicly by SAG-AFTRA members.

AND THIS SAG-AFTRA MEMBER LOVES KAIJU CONTENT AND GODZILLA MOVIES!!!

Behold, the trailer for Godzilla Minus One which dropped recently:

    No Title

GODZILLA MINUS ONE Written and Directed by: Takashi Yamazaki In theaters nationwide December 1, 2023. ©2023 TOHO CO., LTD. #Godzilla #GodzillaMinusOne ===== For more information regarding Godzilla, check out our other channels: Homepage https://godzilla.com/ Instagram https://www.instagram.com/godzilla_toho/ Twitter https://twitter.com/Godzilla_Toho ===== TM & © TOHO CO., LTD.

Fans of Shin Godzilla (the goodest Godzilla movie that has come out in a long time!), will notice similar style elements in this incredibly brief peek.

Godzilla Minus One hit cinemas on December 1st, 2023 from Toho – the creators and longtime stewards of all-things Godzilla.

Happily, as KaijuNewsOutlet observed, there are less than 100 days until release:

The Godzilla brand is also has a foray into comic books coming up to tide us over for these 100 long days in the form of the Justice League vs Godzilla vs King Kong comic book from DC Comics releasing October 17th, 2023.

As the rest of the autumn and winter slate from studios to publishers make announcements it’s going to be fascinating to watch the rise of imported content as the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes continue.

Jonathan Hickman Tackles G.O.D.S. for Marvel Comics

Yesterday Marvel Comics dropped the trailer below for their upcoming series simply titled: G.O.D.S.:

    MARVEL’S G.O.D.S. #1 | Official Trailer | Marvel Comics

    No Description

And Doctor Strange fans watching all over the world felt the tops of their head tingling!

When you watch the trailer with a slightly more critical eye – particularly toward the details like the lettering/design/title cards – shades of Hickman’s House of X / Powers of X begin to emerge in pursuit of the always-hot-at-Marvel-Comics topics of SCIENCE VS MAGIC. Artist Valerio Schiti’s art shines throughout the trailer and comes across as, dare I write (??), magical!

Hickman had the following to say about G.O.D.S.:

“When I came back to Marvel a few years ago, I wrote two series bibles. The first was House of X and the other one was G.O.D.S. To say that I’m excited to finally be able to share this story with everyone is a massive understatement. G.O.D.S. takes place in its own special corner of the Marvel Universe — in the cracks that lie at the intersection of science and magic — and revisits some characters and concepts that we’ve reimagined for a more modern, continuity-driven audience.”

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Valerio Schiti on this for the last year, and watching him bring this to life has been a total joy. G.O.D.S. is my favorite kind of Marvel comic: one that feels like something old, but pushes the Marvel Universe in an exciting new direction.”

    With artist Valero Schiti adding:

“When I was given a chance to work with Jonathan on a new project, I accepted right away. Then I discovered that we would be reimagining gods in the Marvel Universe: how they work, what they do, and how they interact with each other and humanity. It’s the kind of project that makes you weak in the knees when you think about it. Luckily, Jonathan has the gift to make even the most complex stories surprisingly simple and understandable. His pitch inspired me almost immediately. The core of the story is so perfect and clear that it swept away my anxiety and turned it into a burst of creativity.”

There are several new characters poised to be introduced in G.O.D.S., which at first blush centers around “Wyn” the powerful magic user who’s been hiding for all of publication history until this very moment because he was just created. Not to be flip, but this is a persistent issue with the perpetual second act and rolling continuity of Marvel Comics.

Presently there are four issues announced for G.O.D.S. although no official material specifies a “mini series” or anything about length which leads me to believe there’s a chance G.O.D.S. is earmarked for a full 10 issues – or more – depending on initial sales.

    G.O.D.S. #1 hit shelves on October 4th, 2023.
