BUSINESS: Mad Cave Studios acquires Papercutz

Press ReleaseBy Press ReleaseAugust 17, 20223 Mins Read

    PRESS RELEASE

From successful titles such as Nottingham to The Last Session and the launch of the Maverick imprint last year, Mad Cave Studios is proud to announce the expansion of its publication line with the acquisition of Papercutz!

Providing great graphic novels for all ages, the Papercutz catalog includes famed licensed properties The Smurfs, Loud House, Geronimo Stilton, Casagrandes, and more! Mad Cave Studios is opening its doors to continue to create and offer meaningful character-driven stories for adults, young adults, and kids creating a new experience for readers of all ages.

“Papercutz’s devoted fan base and well-established licenses make it the perfect complement to Mad Cave’s current vision,” said Mad Cave Studios founder and CEO, Mark London. “With the addition of Papercutz, readers should know that Mad Cave will be the best place to experience new content for different age groups. This is the next step in building an industry-leading publisher, a commitment we have to our talent, the fans, and the comics community.”

“This acquisition of Papercutz is the perfect middle-grade complement to the Mad Cave publishing group,” said Mad Cave’s V.P. of Business Development, Mark Irwin. “We couldn’t be happier in welcoming the expertise, talent, and content of Papercutz to our great Mad Cave team, and watching both continue to grow.”

Terry Nantier and Jim Salicrup will oversee Papercutz to ensure a smooth transition.

“We are very excited at handing off Papercutz to Mad Cave Studios who I can see is pumped for bringing this brand we built and pioneered with to its next level!” said Papercutz owner, Terry Nantier.

“This is truly Smurftastic!” said Papercutz Editor in Chief, Jim Salicrup. “I greatly look forward to working with the folks at Mad Cave and predict things are only going to get better than ever for Papercutz!”

Rex E. Ogle will be the new head of editorial for Papercutz. Rex has 20 years of experience in publishing, as both an editor and a writer, including work with DC Comics, Scholastic, and Little, Brown Young Readers and on titles such as LEGO, Star Wars,Minecraft, Power Rangers, Despicable Me, Minions, and more.

“Papercutz has been publishing incredible graphic novels for kids for 17 years, and Mad Cave already has an amazing readership in both the adult and young adult sectors, so it’s exciting to add our middle grade line to the overall list,” said Papercutz Head of Editorial, Rex E. Ogle, “By providing licensed books, original stories, and creator-owned projects, we’ll be creating new stories for every reader and creating an entry point to the rest of our line. As young readers grow and their tastes evolve, we’ll be able to provide fresh content. Whether a child is a reluctant reader or reading well ahead of their peers, Papercutz can provide action, adventure, fantasy, mystery, scary stories, and of course, some of the most recognizable characters in the media.”

Becoming a place to experience new content for different age groups, this is Mad Cave Studios’ first acquisition. Papercutz was represented in the transaction jointly by Kuo-Yu Liang of Ku Worldwide and by David Lamb and Susan Reich of Book Advisors. Forthcoming title roll-out TBA.
