Previously in Norse Mythology: Loki escaped his tortured imprisonment and gathered up his army of giants and his children. The Norse gods have gathered the fighting men for a final stand. Now is the time for Ragnarök!
THE END AND THE BEGINNING
Norse Mythology III #6 starts with substantial battle sequences with many deaths. Thor battles the Midgard Serpent while Odin fends off Fenrir. Other gods fight Garm and Surtr and ultimately perish. Near the battle’s end, only Heimdall and Loki are left. After brief banter and swordplay, the two kill each other. Then Surtr wraps the world in fire.
However, there is hope. A woman known as Life and a man called Life’s Yearning repopulates the earth, and the kids of Odin and Thor survive. On top of that, Balder and Hod return from the underworld. The new gods find small statues of the old gods in the grass and use them as a chess set. And the game and world begin anew.
UNCERTAIN
This final issue of Norse Mythology III #6 lacked a protagonist. I understand that this isn’t conventional storytelling. Still, sometimes it felt like I was reading a history book with many pictures. For me, it didn’t have the emotional weight that some of the other stories this series featured. Most of our heroes only got a few panels to show who lives and dies. Because of that, the climax of the story fell flat for me.
I do enjoy the art style of Norse Mythology. I think the style feels older but has great character design. Seeing the characters fight these monsters is engaging on the page. Great work by the creative team here.
BOTTOM LINE: WEAK CONCLUSION
Norse Mythology III #6 didn’t end on a high note for me. The series has been fun to read, but I couldn’t get into this final story arc. With that in mind, this is a 3 out of 5 from me.

Norse Mythology III #6 lacked a protagonist for me to root for, making me disinterested in the story.
