Ghostbusters is Finally Getting Another Animated Series
On Wednesday Variety broke the news all children of the 80s and 90s were waiting for – Ghostbuster is back and it’s back in our favourite form – ANIMATION!
While details are scarce Variety revealed the following:
A new “Ghostbusters” animated series is in development at Netflix, Variety has learned exclusively. The series hails from Sony Pictures Animation, with Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan of Ghost Corps, Inc. onboard as executive producers. Reitman and Kenan recently co-wrote the live-action feature “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” with Reitman also directing.
This third animated series follows Extreme Ghostbusters and The Real Ghostbusters and the third reboot of the franchise in the wake of 2016’s Ghostbusters and last year’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Given the popularity of Ghostbusters Afterlife I think this is a fun, exciting expansion of the franchise. Given the nature of animation the visual effects budget shouldn’t be an issue the same way it can be for live action projects. My guess would be a ton of new ghosts are on the horizon to join Slimer as an integral part of the ongoing Ghostbusters mythos.
Here’s hoping Reitman and Netflix snap up some of the outstanding creatives who have contributed to the Ghostbusters comic books as well – here’s looking at you, Erik Burnham!
For Netflix this is one of many IP-based animated series they’ve brought over to their roster including Jurassic Park and The Fast and the Furious, among others.
No word yet on whether or not any noted Ghostbusters actors or original voice actors will be reprising their roles or if this is an entirely new story for fans.
Wednesday Trailer
Speaking of Netflix … this week was Geek Week and a bunch of other cool stuff was announced including:
Wednesday Addams Revealed | Netflix
From the imagination of Tim Burton comes WEDNESDAY — a twisted new series coming soon to Netflix. WEDNESDAY — starring Jenna Ortega in the title role, alon…
Jenna Ortega is stepping into the role of the iconic Wednesday Addams and she followed up the trailer drop with a Tweet of her own:
Jenna Ortega on Twitter: “pic.twitter.com/zp2MCkXAJR / Twitter”

She follows in the steps of Christina Ricci, the most famous actor to play the role yet. Ricci will be joining the cast of Wednesday as well, albeit in a yet unrevealed role. My money is on Morticia or an adult Wednesday Addams – perhaps only serving as the narrator of the show and never seen on screen.
Deadline broke the news of Ricci’s involvement in Wednesday in March of this year writing:
will be a major part of the live-action show from Tim Burton.
Game of Thrones superstar and now Netflix icon, Gwendoline Christie, joins the Wednesday cast in the part of Larissa Weems (an original character to the show).
As of yet Wednesday’s release date is still a vague “2022”. Despite it being not-quite-summer yet autumn is right around the corner and always brings in spooky season. I will be eyeing late September or October for Wednesday to be streamable.
Sandman Release Date Announcement
Netflix’s Geek Week also shared a release date for the highly-anticipated Sandman series:
The Sandman | Date Announcement | Netflix
There is another world that waits for all of us when we close our eyes and sleep – a place called the Dreaming, where The Sandman, Master of Dreams (Tom Stur…
For me, one of the most exciting aspects of Sandman (outside of Gaiman and the incredible source material, of course), is Allan Heinberg serving writing duties. His script for Wonder Woman (2017), is one of my favourite superhero scripts of all time.
The footage of Kirby Howell-Baptiste has lit social media aflame – in a good way, as it should, because she is amazing – as well as the reveal of Jenne Coleman playing Johanna Constantine rather than reprising her role as Constantine from the Sandman audio drama. Fans of Doctor Who have already pointed out the similarities to the various versions of Clara Oswald she played during her tenure on the iconic BBC series. The aforementioned Gwendoline Christie is also one of the stars of Sandman stepping into the role of Lucifer and I, for one, have much excite!
The rest of the series is riddled with stars including: Boyd Hollbrook, David Thewlis, Patton Oswalt, Charles Dance (another Game of Thrones alum!), Stephen Fry, Sanjeev Bhaskar, and more.
August 5th! Mark your calendars!
Black Adam Trailer
Not to be outdone by Netflix, Warners Brothers released the first trailer for Black Adam and it the internet on fire. We get our first look at Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan), Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Isis (Sarah Shahi).
Black Adam – Official Trailer 1
The world needed a hero, it got #BLACKADAM. Only in theaters October 21.From New Line Cinema, Dwayne Johnson stars in the action adventure “Black Adam.” The…
The trailer reveals little comic book audiences familiar with the eponymous Black Adam don’t already know and it feels solidly like it is set in the same world Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Whether this is a pro or con to moviegoing audiences will be determined this October when Black Adam opens worldwide.
