Previously in MMPR: Check out two different series combined in a brand-new way! The Power Rangers have been tracking down Rita Repulsa for a long while after she found an ancient artifact. The Green Ranger moves in for a reconnaissance mission but finds himself in a dire situation.

DRAGONZORD VS. THE KING OF THE MONSTERS

Godzilla vs. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #1 begins with Rita Repulsa and her henchmen using a powerful gem right before the Green Ranger attacks! Unfortunately, Tommy is too late, and Rita teleports everyone to a new world where they are face to face with Godzilla fighting another monster. Rita then meets the Controller of Planet X and then makes an alliance. She can cause mayhem with monsters while the Supreme Controller can have the planet’s resources. Their goal? To defeat Godzilla.

Meanwhile, the Green Ranger finds himself in this new world and sees Godzilla. He summons his Dragonzord to fight this monster. After unleashing the full power of his zord, Godzilla defeated his mech. Luckily, the rest of the Power Rangers arrive to provide some backup.

    A LITTLE SILLY

There are some comics out there that are just designed to have a little fun. Godzilla vs. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #1 is just that. We are here to see giant mechanic robots fight Godzilla with a very loose premise of a storyline thrown together. My interest thus comes from finding out how Godzilla and the Rangers team up because inevitably, they must band together. Beyond that, the plot is cliché. If you read any team-up crossover book, you recognize the formula that this comic follows. The good guys fight each other, realize that they aren’t enemies, and band up to defeat the bad guy. Despite this, it is fun and doesn’t take itself seriously. And sometimes, we just need a story that is like that.

I am also reasonably impressed with the art. I saw that first page and was surprised by how much detail there was. Sometimes, Power Rangers and their villains look kind of silly. Here, they managed to add so much detail in the characters and scenery that made these pages enjoyable to look at. Fantastic job by the artistic team here.

    BOTTOM LINE: ENJOYABLE

Godzilla vs. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #1 doesn’t have a lot of depth but still provides a fair bit of entertainment. This series is for you if you ever want to see Godzilla fight the Zords. This comic is a 3.5 out of 5 stars from me. But keep in mind that I don’t have any particular interest in these two titles, and people interested in these characters will enjoy this more.
