    SAG Awards 2022 Breakdown

Ashley Victoria RobinsonBy Ashley Victoria RobinsonFebruary 28, 2022Updated:February 28, 20223 Mins Read

Last night was the Screen Actors Guild Awards. SAG-AFTRA is the Guild which protects and supports on-screen talent working on screen in American productions. In conjunction with the out come of the Golden Globe Awards, the SAG Awards are often looked at to predict which stars and which productions are going to show out in the Academy Awards later this year.

You can read our full Golden Globes coverage from earlier this year.

Ensemble Awards are staples of the SAG Awards as they celebrate the collaborative nature of performance. Succession and Ted Lasso led the awards for Ensemble this year for drama and comedy, respectively with CODA (also nominated for Academy Awards), taking the award in film.

Korean superstar series Squid Game snapped up Ensemble Stunts and two acting awards with Jung Ho-yeon winning Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series and Lee Jung-jae winning Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series. These wins make Squid Game the first Korean production to win SAG Awards. Historic, at the very least.

    Jung Ho-yeon’s acceptance speech:

    Lee Jung-jae’s acceptance speech:

Tony Kotsur won Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role for his role in CODA and gave both his acceptance speech and backstage speech in American Sign Language:

On the film side, Power of the Dog was snubbed where it had previously been celebrated by the Golden Globes, poising West Side Story and CODA to be the front runners with combined wins from both previous award shows thus far in 2022.

This win makes Kotsur the first ever deaf actor to win a SAG Award.
