    A Crisis is coming… a Dark Crisis…

Robot OverlordBy Robot OverlordFebruary 10, 2022Updated:February 10, 20223 Mins Read

DC Comics has revealed plans for its next big crossover event – Dark Crisis, which will kick off on Free Comic Book Day 2022.

Spinning out of the events of the Death of the Justice League (Justice League #75), Pariah is back and attempting to bring the Multiverse back. And with no Justice League around to stop him…

“We’ve been building to the Death of the Justice League for the last year across the main line,” said writer Joshua Williamson. “I remember buying DEATH OF SUPERMAN 30 years ago and now we have an opportunity to take that idea and go bigger with it. JUSTICE LEAGUE 75 allows us to showcase why the Justice League are comics’ greatest heroes as we show the aftermath of the loss against their biggest threat ever and its impact on the DCU.”

The Dark Crisis event will kick off in the pages of Dark Crisis #0 from Joshua Williamson and artist Daniel Sampere.

“Dark Crisis is an epic DCU event about legacy,” Williamson said in a press release from DC Comics. “It will have all the giant, fun cosmic battles and Multiversal set pieces, but it’s not about reboots, retcons, or rewriting time and space. At its core it’s about the characters and the relationships that we’ve seen built over DC’s great history. Dark Crisis spins out of Justice League 75 ‘DEATH OF THE JUSTICE LEAGUE’ and connects all the story threads across the DCU since Infinite Frontier #0 in a major way. Unifying the new legacy of the DCU as we honor the classic. You can’t miss it!”

So who will replace the Justice League? A lot of the teaser art we’ve seen on various websites across the Interwebs seem to indicate many of the events from the proposed “5G” and things going on in Future State (John Fox as Batman), find their fit thanks to Dark Crisis.

What will be the end result? If the Multiverse is back… again… then the notion that all continuity is up for grabs, and telling great stories with great character, and even greater creative teams set up by Diane Nelson many, many, many years ago, might actually make sense. We’ll have an Earth with John Fox and President Superman, an Earth where Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman continue on the grand tradition, and even an Earth where John Kent and Kal-El can have adventures together as adults.

Don’t worry, kids, there will be a lot of tie-ins, and other comic series coming our way in 2022, and BEYOND!

Here is how DC Comics describes the first one-shot that leads up to the FCBD issue:

One-Shot Justice League: Road to Dark Crisis #1 Will Be On Sale May 31st. In the original Crisis on Infinite Earths by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez, the homeworld of Pariah, along with the infinite Multiverse, was obliterated. Now, this mad sole survivor has found a way to bring his homeworld and the entire infinite Multiverse back from the dead: Earth-0 must die. An ancient destructive force called the Great Darkness, first appearing in Swamp Thing by Alan Moore and Stan Woch, is the weapon Pariah will wield as he paves a path to rebirth and vengeance. In DC’s next big event, DARK CRISIS, the heroes left behind must come together to combat this great evil and save the lost Justice League, but what happens when not everyone agrees to join the fight?

Somewhere Dan DiDio is laughing, and reminding everyone he was right…

Dark Crisis #0 Special Edition arrives on May 7, 2022.
