    94th Annual Academy Award Nominations

Ashley Victoria RobinsonBy Ashley Victoria RobinsonFebruary 8, 20227 Mins Read

This morning the Academy released the latest nominees for the Oscars with Netflix original, Power of the Dog leading the way with 12 nominations and genre icon remake, Dune, hot on the Benedict Cumberbatch-led Western with 10 nominations to its title.

Kenneth Branagh’s Belfast and Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story remakes are also among top nominees picking up nominations across multiple award categories.

These nominees have a couple monumental moments, including Power of the Dog director Jane Campion being the first female director to earn two nominations for Best Director. Branagh is the first person to earn seven Academy Award nominations in seven separate categories over the course of his career. CODA’s Troy Kotsur is only the second deaf actor to have garnered an acting nomination for playing a deaf character – the first being Marlee Matlin with whom he co-stars in CODA. Additionally, two couples are nominated this year for performance awards with Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz AND Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons all nominated for Being the Ricardos, Parallel Mothers, and Power of the Dog respectively.

This year for the first time in three years the Academy Awards will be broadcast live from The Dolby Theater in Hollywood, California. This year is the 94th ceremony and it will be simulcast on television – tune into ABC to watch this years proceedings on Sunday, March 27th, 2022. Variety announced in January the Oscars will have a live host this year, although who it will be has yet to be revealed to the public.
