Dakota Johnson to play Sony’s Madame Web
Yesterday Deadline reported 50 Shades of Gray star Dakota Johnson will be playing Madame Web in Sony Picture’s Marvel’s Spider-Man Universe.
Spider-Man comic book readers know Madame Web is an iconic Spidey villain. She’s appeared in various animated Spider-Man television shows. What may strike Spoilerites as strange about Johnson’s casting is Madame Web traditionally appears as an older woman. She is also classically blind. At first blush, Johnson would strike me as too young to play Madame Web, but her work in Suspiria has me convinced she can play creepy and villainous.
While the deal is not closed, insiders state it is very close to completion. Johnson would portray Madame Web in a stand-alone Madame Web movie with Jessica Jones’ alumna S.J. Clarkson currently tapped to direct.

Amazon’s Lord of the Rings Series Reveals Character Posters
Yesterday The Rings of Power released their first character posters. If the eyes are the windows to the soul, perhaps the hands are the windows to The Rings?
Fans of The Lord of the Rings and deeper Tolkien mythos can probably make pretty educated guesses about whose hands are whose. Nanya, Narya, Vilya, the shapes of swords, designs on clothing don’t necessarily give away who these characters are, but there are hints to be had. The vague non-reveal of these posters is on par with much of the information that has rolled out about The Rings of Power thus far.
The series is set during the Second Age, but we weren’t given exact years or events the story would focus around. The title of the show is The Rings of Power, but it hasn’t been made clear which rings are specifically going to be coming to the forefront. Here are a bunch of character posters, but we’re not telling you who they are!
As frustrating as my tone may be coming across, I really admire The Rings of Power’s dedication to mystery. They’re stringing us along without spoiling the best most exciting moments of the show before we even have the opportunity to watch the pilot episode.
