Previously in Inferno: Professor X and Magneto carried a secret. They have kept Moira’s existence hidden because she has the mutant ability of reincarnation. With Destiny’s resurrection and election into the Quiet Council, everyone is looking to get the upper hand. Meanwhile Orchis is still plotting against Krakoa and they may be ready to make their next move.
CONSPIRACY
Inferno #3 begins by telling us what Cypher and the island of Krakoa are up too. Cypher and Warlock have integrated with Krakoa in a way that people can’t keep secrets from them. Krakoa then gives Cypher an objective, to get rid of “her”. Meanwhile, Emma Frost reveals to Destiny and Mystique the truth about Moira and allows them to scheme about their next step, whatever that may be.
While Moira travels to Paris, she is suddenly attacked by Orchis hooligans and is kidnapped. Charles and Erik realize it immediately and sets out to free her from an Orchis Node. As they prepare their assault, Professor X and Magneto finds a destroyed base with many murdered people. As they search, they find Moira badly hurt and Nimrod there with a bunch of SHIELD soldiers!
A LOT GOING ON[/su_heading]
There is a lot going on in Inferno #3 that I opted to not include in my review. Regardless, there is this theme of deceit that is embedded deep into the comic that kind of reminds us that mutants are also human. When Hickman brought in this new era of X-Men, it initially felt like we were trying to develop the differences between humans and mutants. When we hit this issue, Krakoa has the same problems of corruption that humans tend to have. It just keeps going back and forth and I’m not sure I’m on board at the moment. Krakoa was interesting because it was the utopia that presented cool, unique, and new ideas. Now that the utopia is faltering, I’m afraid we are going to end up rehashing old storylines instead of repairing the society that they have built. It will be interesting to see how everything works out in the next couple of months.
BOTTOM LINE: MEDIOCRE[/su_heading]
Whatever they are setting up, I hope it is worth it. Inferno #3 seems to just be there to push our characters to whatever Inferno #4 is going to be about. This isn’t a bad thing, but as a stand-alone issue I don’t think this comic works very well. I would recommend readers to wait for the trade paperback if they are not currently following this series. 3.5 out of 5 from me but I do admit I’m super curious to see what happens in the next issue.
