One of the unexpected side effects of Conan’s return to the Marvel Universe has been his participation in the book titled Savage Avengers. It’s not 100% clear to me if he’s actually an Avenger in-universe or not, since that book has had a rotating cast and is more Conan Team-Up than anything else, but it’s worth nothing that his interactions with the present-day 616 reality were limited during his first run at Marvel. It’s not like he’s the first character to be tied into continuity, then disappear, but his ubiquity during his triumphant return gently bothers me in ways I can’t really articulate, leading to today’s Cimmerian querian…
The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) supposes that Kulan Gath and the Serpent Crown and other bits of that story never did leave, asking: Do you find a problem with Conan The Barbarian serving as an Avenger in the modern Marvel Universe?

Conan belongs in the Hyborian Age. He’s not a superhero that can be dropped into the Avengers.
This is a cash grab by Marvel ™.
Only if it is an open-ended thing. Conan is something of an itinerant adventurer, so I’m okay if for a period that he somehow wanders to a future of magical super science and fights alongside the ‘World’s Greatest Heroes.’ But for it to have any meaning, it should have an end.
I don’t have a problem with it in general, but I also have almost zero interest in modern Avengers anyways, so in my case its just a lack of opinion. I’m not opposed to making crossovers with wild combinations, but that would be better if its done in its own, limited series or something. In this case, when its a blatant attempt to bring attention to a struggling industry and more importantly, to make everything a part of Disney’s MCU, yes I do have problem and I don’t like it.
